Right now is a great time to be a science fiction fan, as Hollywood is making a lot of sequels. First, the new Avatar movie, Fire and Ash, is coming out soon, and if it does well, it will likely lead to two more films by James Cameron. Then, in 2026, Denis Villeneuve will release Dune: Messiah, which concludes his epic trilogy and promises to be even more spectacular than the previous installments. But eventually, both of these popular series will end, leaving some gaps for new science fiction movies to fill.
The “Predator” and “Alien” franchises are gaining momentum with new films, but they lack major star power. Luckily, “I Am Legend 2” is poised to draw audiences with its cast alone. The sequel to the 2007 Will Smith film, which featured the last man in New York battling nocturnal creatures, will now star Michael B. Jordan as another survivor.
Although Jordan and Smith have both expressed enthusiasm for a sequel, there haven’t been many updates about I Am Legend 2 recently. Akiva Goldsman, who wrote the first film, is working on the script, but it’s still in progress. However, photos appearing online are leading fans to believe the movie might be released sooner than expected.
Diego Rosa recently shared photos on Instagram that appear to show him with actors Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan, exploring New York City and having hot chocolate. However, these pictures are almost certainly fake, created using artificial intelligence. Rosa’s Instagram account contains many questionable images, including one showing him on the set of Breaking Bad, a show that finished filming more than ten years ago.
Although production on I Am Legend 2 hasn’t started yet, it’s likely to happen eventually, as Will Smith is very confident in the project.

In the movie I Am Legend, Robert Neville, played by Will Smith, is known for sacrificing himself to save two other people. However, to potentially make a sequel, Smith has supported a different ending where Neville leaves New York and starts a new life in Connecticut.
In April 2025, Smith explained that they had originally planned to make a prequel. However, Goldsman suggested a different approach: a new story based on an alternate ending where Smith’s character survives and Michael B. Jordan’s character leads a new settlement. He clarified that Jordan’s character isn’t Smith’s son, and that this settlement is located in Connecticut.
