5 Heroes That Need to Appear Next in DC Comics’ Absolute Universe

DC Comics’ Absolute Universe has proven to be a major hit. When the line launched in 2024, it was hard to imagine how popular series like Absolute Wonder Woman and Absolute Martian Manhunter would become. A key to its success seems to be DC’s careful approach. After just over a year, they’ve only released a few books and introduced a limited number of heroes into the Absolute Universe.

We’ve recently seen some exciting new heroes appear, such as Absolute Catwoman and Absolute Zatanna. However, there are still many other great heroes waiting to be introduced. While there’s no need to rush things, it would be fantastic to eventually see more allies team up with Absolute Superman, Flash, and the rest, and explore the challenges this universe has in store. Here are 5 heroes we definitely need to see join the Absolute Universe!

5. Aquaman

It seems pretty clear that Aquaman is the missing piece in DC’s Absolute Universe line. Six of the original Justice League members already have their own Absolute edition books, but Aquaman hasn’t gotten one yet. Interestingly, the recent Absolute Wonder Woman featured a character from Atlantis, hinting that an Absolute Aquaman book might be in the works. While an Aquaman book isn’t essential, it would feel more complete if the Absolute Universe included him.

4. Blue Beetle

I’ve always been drawn to the Blue Beetle character, and I believe Jaime Reyes would be a fantastic addition to the Absolute Universe. Although I personally prefer Ted Kord, Jaime’s unique connection to the Scarab and the Reach offers exciting possibilities. Since we haven’t fully explored the scope of the Absolute Universe, a hero like Blue Beetle is ideally suited to reveal what lies in the farthest corners of Darkseid’s domain.

3. Black Canary

I’m a big fan of Black Canary! Her fighting style is fantastic, and her Canary Cry is a really cool power. I think she’d be a great addition to this world, particularly as an ally to Absolute Batman – since the events in Absolute Evil have separated her from Green Arrow. The Absolute Universe could use more heroes focused on street-level crime, and Black Canary’s skills would be perfect for trying to improve things in such a corrupt world.

2. Green Arrow

It was a short run for the Green Arrow in the Absolute Universe – he was killed by Hawkman after only five minutes! However, a Green Arrow comic series is planned for next year, leaving fans wondering who will become the next Emerald Archer. While Roy Harper is confirmed to exist in this universe, making him a strong possibility, other characters like Connor Hawke or Mia Dearden – or even someone closely tied to Oliver Queen – could also take up the mantle. Regardless of who it is, the new Green Arrow will face a huge challenge in this dangerous world.

1. Shazam

The Absolute Universe is a bleak place, desperately in need of hope. Billy Batson, and his superhero form, Shazam, seem like the perfect candidates to bring some light to it. It’s likely there will be challenges to Billy’s connection with his powers, but hopefully, when Shazam appears, he’ll be the cheerful, inspiring hero this dark world needs.
