To celebrate 20 years of the Yakuza / Like a Dragon series, publisher SEGA and developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have released a two-minute concept video.
The original Yakuza game came out in Japan on December 8, 2005, for the PlayStation 2. Since then, the series has grown to include eight main games, plus remakes, remasters, and many spin-off titles. It has also inspired a Japanese movie and a television series on Amazon Prime.
The newest installment, Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, will be released on February 12, 2026, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (through Steam).
I just watched the 20th anniversary video, and it’s really cool! It tells the story of a guy’s life and career, and it’s all woven together with inspiring quotes from Kiryu, the main character in the Yakuza games. It’s a really emotional and powerful way to celebrate the series.
