Now that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) is buying Electronic Arts – they’re expected to own 93.4% of the company – fans are wondering what will happen to some of EA’s popular game series. While many are focused on the future of Dragon Age, especially after the underwhelming reception to The Veilguard, anyone hoping for a new Dead Space game should probably lower their expectations.
According to sources speaking on the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast, the series has been put on hold indefinitely. Developers who worked on the project were hoping EA would sell the rights to the game, particularly as the company looks for ways to reduce spending. Currently, there are no plans to revive the series, though a sale is still a possibility.
It seems a new game from former lead Glen Schofield isn’t going to happen. He previously suggested a fourth Dead Space game, but EA wasn’t interested in the idea before they acquired the studio.
The most recent significant game in the series was the 2023 remake of Dead Space, which received widespread acclaim. Afterwards, reports surfaced suggesting a sequel had been cancelled because the original game didn’t sell very well, but the publisher stated that a sequel was never in development.
