Katsuhiro Harada, the director and producer behind the popular Tekken fighting game series, has revealed he is leaving Bandai Namco soon.
This announcement coincides with the 30th anniversary of the popular fighting game series. Katsuhiro Harada has been involved with every game in the franchise, dedicating almost his entire three-decade career to it.
He announced his departure in a detailed statement, saying he felt it was the right time to move on. He will be leaving Bandai Namco at the end of 2025.
Honestly, seeing some of my friends and coworkers retire, and even sadly passing away, really made me think about how much time I have left to keep creating games. It got me thinking about my legacy, you know? So I reached out to Ken Kutaragi – I have so much respect for him, I basically see him as a second father – and asked for his advice.
Harada says he’s slowly transferred his duties to the Tekken team over the past few years.
Harada expressed his sincere thanks to everyone who has supported him, to communities worldwide, and to his long-time colleagues. He says he’ll share details about his future plans soon.
The official Tekken account released a statement thanking Harada for his leadership and contributions to the game’s success. They also confirmed that development of Tekken 8 and future Tekken games will go on as planned.
Besides Tekken, Harada has also worked on popular games like SoulCalibur and Ace Combat. He even helped oversee the development of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
He’s a gaming icon, and though he may not be retiring, his incredible 30-year career at Bandai Namco is something to celebrate. Everyone’s curious to see what he’ll do next.
