Shenmue 4 Trailer Confirmed a Heartbreaking Fake as YS Net Threatens Legal Action

Update [Mon 8th Dec 2025, 10:30am]:

The impressive trailer for Shenmue 4 that confused fans last week turned out to be a hoax, even though it showed a lot of potential story details.

A fan-made video lasting four minutes has been removed by the studio YS Net, who state they had nothing to do with its creation. They are now considering legal action against the person who made it.

The company stated that using their logo without permission, or creating content that falsely suggests it’s officially endorsed, is a serious problem that could lead to legal action for trademark and competition violations.

We’re truly sorry for any confusion this has caused our fans and everyone involved.

It’s likely that YS Net doesn’t have full ownership of the Shenmue franchise. This might explain why SEGA contacted them with questions after the video surfaced, and seems to be what YS Net’s statement hints at.

But the bigger issue here is the disappointment this may have caused fans.

Although many expected this, the trailer’s creators obviously know Shenmue incredibly well. We think it was unfair to intentionally mislead fans who were eagerly awaiting the continuation of Ryo’s story.

Original Story: Don’t play with our emotions like this. Seriously, this is cruel.

Where did this surprisingly shaky and unofficial trailer for Shenmue 4 suddenly appear, and was it created using AI? It doesn’t seem completely artificial to us, but with today’s technology, it’s hard to be certain.

Okay, as a Shenmue fan, I gotta say, this trailer is amazing! It’s really moving the story forward. We finally get to see Ryo back in China, and it looks like Ren and Shenhua are going to be right there with him, which is awesome.

We briefly see Niao Sun, a character originally designed for the first Shenmue but who didn’t make an appearance until Shenmue 3.

The new video shows off a bunch of different minigames, ranging from everyday tasks like washing dishes to an arcade game called Shenmue Fighters that plays like Street Fighter. You’ll also be able to purchase and wear various outfits. It all seems a little too realistic to be computer-generated, doesn’t it?

Near the trailer’s end, a brief flashback appears a bit odd, but everything else seems in line with the technology Ys Net used for Shenmue 3.

As a big fan, I noticed the copyright info says this is still being developed, which is exciting! And if it is the real deal, it looks like Yu Suzuki’s company is working with SEGA again to bring this franchise back – that’s awesome news!

The trailer initially surfaced on a little-known YouTube account that had previously shared videos of Astro Bot and Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. The account only has six subscribers.

We’re impressed with what we’ve seen – it looks fantastic, exactly like a dream Shenmue game! However, we’re still trying to confirm if it’s genuine. We’ve reached out for more information and will share updates as soon as we have them.
