Cynthia Erivo & Ariana Grande Make History at the Golden Globes Nominations for Wicked: For Good

The nominations for the 2026 Golden Globes are out, and it was pleased to see itself included. While the show’s two main stars made history with their nominations, the second installment of the popular musical was surprisingly overlooked in a major category.

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo both earned nominations, marking a first for actors from the same film to be nominated twice for their performances. Despite receiving multiple nominations, the movie Wicked wasn’t nominated for Best Picture, Musical, or Comedy.

Cynthia Erivo, known for her role as Elphaba, has made Golden Globes history as the first Black actress to be nominated twice for Lead Actress in a Comedy or Musical. This nomination for 2024’s Wicked came just a year after her first, and was for the same performance.

Rose Byrne (from If I Had Legs I’d Kick You), Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue), Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another), Amanda Seyfried (The Testament of Ann Lee), and Emma Stone (Bugonia) were also nominated in the same category.

In addition to other nominations, Wicked: For Good received honors for its cinematic quality and box office success, and for its original songs “No Place Like Home” and “The Girl in the Bubble.” However, many were surprised that it wasn’t nominated for Best Film.

The Golden Globes winners will be announced on Sunday, Jan. 11 on CBS and Paramount+.
