It’s surprisingly common and often annoying that popular TV shows suddenly disappear from major streaming services without any clear explanation. While older shows like Miami Vice and Moonlighting sometimes had issues with music rights, that doesn’t seem to be the problem with many newer series. Despite this, lots of shows from the past 20 years are simply unavailable to stream.
I was so excited to see Go On finally hit a major streaming service this week! It’s a show from 2012 that only lasted one season, with 22 episodes total. But now, all of them are available on Peacock, which is amazing – it’s much easier to watch than it has been for years. I’m definitely planning a re-watch!
If you missed Go On when it first aired, now’s the perfect time to discover it. If you enjoy Ted Lasso, you’ll likely love this show too, as it explores similar heartwarming themes and positive messages.
The show Go On features the late Matthew Perry, best known from Friends, as a sportscaster struggling to cope after his wife’s death. His boss encourages him to join a support group where he unexpectedly finds a sense of community and a new kind of family.
Even just from that quick overview, you can likely see the similarities to Ted Lasso. While both shows involve sports, the core of this show is about people supporting each other through loss and helping each other grow. If Go On had aired a little later, it probably would have been more popular and lasted longer than it did.
Okay, so Matthew Perry is definitely the lead, but I was really surprised by how many other actors I recognized! Brett Gelman from Stranger Things is in every episode, which is awesome. And they’ve got Laura Benanti, Julie White, Suzy Nakamura, Sarah Baker, Tonita Castro, and even John Cho! Plus, Tyler James Williams – I grew up watching him on Everybody Hates Chris, and now he’s killing it on Abbott Elementary – he’s a big part of the show too, appearing in almost all of the episodes!
Bill Hobbs appears in multiple episodes, and the show also features many guest stars, including Piper Perabo, Terrell Owens, Khary Payton, Rich Eisen, Lauren Graham, Bradley Whitford, Jeff Hiller, and Courteney Cox, who famously co-starred with Perry on Friends.
Even though it only lasted 22 episodes, the TV show Go On is definitely worth watching, particularly if you’re missing Ted Lasso and looking for something new. You can stream all the episodes now on Peacock.
Now that Go On is available to stream, are you planning to watch it? Share your thoughts in the comments and join the discussion in the ComicBook Forum!
