A hugely popular and critically acclaimed game is finally coming to Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. The Switch, while incredibly successful, hasn’t always received as many games from developers other than Nintendo, likely due to its less powerful hardware compared to consoles like PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PCs. But fans waiting for more variety will be happy to hear this landmark title arrives in just over a week.
Nightdive Studios announced today that System Shock is coming to both Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Originally released in 1994, System Shock was a groundbreaking game that helped create the immersive sim genre. This genre went on to influence many popular games, including Dishonored, BioShock, Prey, and Deus Ex. Its sequel, System Shock 2, was almost as impactful, solidifying the franchise’s place as a true pioneer in gaming.
Nightdive Studios originally released a remake of the classic game System Shock on PC in 2023, and it eventually became available on PlayStation and Xbox. Now, Nintendo Switch owners will finally be able to play it too, as the remake launches on December 18th.
The Switch and Switch 2 versions of System Shock will largely offer the same gameplay experience as those on other platforms. The biggest advantage will be the ability to play on the go, taking advantage of the Switch’s portability. While there might be some differences in performance and graphics, the core game should remain consistent across all versions.
This is a significant release for both Switch and Switch 2 and deserves attention. While System Shock may not be widely known, it’s a hugely influential game series. If you’ve ever wanted to experience it, now is the perfect time, as it’s finally available on Nintendo consoles.
