In 2023, the game titled Lords of the Fallen was made available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Since it first hit the shelves (take a look at our old review), the game has received substantial post-launch support in the form of significant updates. These updates have not only added new content to the game but also worked to rectify some of its initial issues.
In April, a major overhaul (version 2.0) for the game Lords of the Fallen was released. This update transformed the game into its Definitive Edition, as stated by CI Games. The most significant addition to this update is the implementation of shared progress when playing in co-op mode. This means that for a maximum of two players at once, both will be able to retain their progress as they advance together through the main campaign.
This update introduced a variety of cooperative features, including the ability for players to revive each other when one gets knocked out. Additionally, both players will collect all the loot they discover during their campaign. The shared progression cooperative mode can be accessed through either automatic team formation or by joining forces with friends who have pre-made parties.
The update made enhancements to the fundamental fighting system of the game, resulting in sleeker dodges, enhanced weapon reactivity, and an advanced lock-on feature that notifies players about opportunities for Grievous Strikes when they arise.
In early January, Tom O’Connor, senior vice president of development at CI Games, shared that they intend to keep providing substantial updates for their action RPG, along with addressing player feedback. According to O’Connor, these actions aim to boost game sales.
In response to a question about the studio’s business strategies for 2025, O’Connor explained that they aim to keep boosting sales of “Lords of the Fallen” in 2023 by implementing strategic price reductions and regularly releasing valuable updates up to version 2.0, based on player feedback and user testing results.
In the investor Q&A session, marketing director Ryan Hill further discussed the updates Lords of the Fallen has received to date, noting an improvement in its Steam User Score throughout this period. Initially, the game boasted a “Very Positive” rating on Steam.
Hill stated that since launch, we’ve rolled out numerous post-release updates and content additions for “Lords of the Fallen”, and we’ve directly seen the impact; the Steam User Score has been consistently climbing since 2024, peaking at an all-time high of 80 (indicating very positive feedback) in December.
After that point, nevertheless, the user ratings for “Lords of the Fallen” on Steam have dropped to a level classified as “Mixed”.
