Blue Prince’s Solo Developer Has No Plans to Make a Sequel

I was so hooked on Blue Prince – it’s amazing how much praise it’s gotten from both critics and players! But I just read an interview with the creator, Tonda Ros, and he said he doesn’t plan on making a sequel. He’s thinking about what his next project will be, but it definitely won’t be Blue Prince 2. It’s a little disappointing, but I respect his decision and I’m still excited to see what he comes up with next!

Ros explains that the creator prefers to work on self-contained projects. He might even switch genres for his next work, but fans can still expect to see some recurring themes and connections to his previous game, Blue Prince. His different passions will likely influence his future releases, leading to subtle similarities with Blue Prince despite the potential genre change.

Ros explained that she doesn’t plan on making sequels to her work. She prefers creating self-contained stories and then moving on to entirely new projects, often in different genres. While her future work might feel familiar due to recurring themes reflecting her interests, she anticipates blending things up and incorporating successful elements from her novel, Blue Prince, particularly in terms of her writing techniques.

I’m not sure what I’ll do next, but I’m a little worried about making another 3D game. My first 3D game was really challenging, and I wish I’d chosen a 2D game instead – I probably could have finished it in five years rather than the eight it took. Whatever I do next will be quite different, though.

Blue Prince is a one-of-a-kind puzzle game where you play as Simon P. Jones, trying to unlock the secrets of a 45-room estate and reach the elusive 46th room. The core gameplay involves choosing which room to enter next, and your decisions can earn you rewards like currency and keys, as well as clues to help you progress – the more locked doors remaining, the better the potential rewards.

The story of Blue Prince isn’t directly told; instead, it unfolds as you uncover the secrets of Baron Herbert S. Sinclair’s estate. Jones, the sole heir, must investigate to fulfill the Baron’s final request. The narrative is revealed through notes left by those who came before, and by carefully observing the condition of each room.

Blue Prince is a puzzle game released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It was primarily created by one person, Tonda Ros (known as Dogubomb), and draws inspiration from the classic puzzle book Maze: Solve the World’s Most Challenging Puzzle by Christopher Manson. Our review awarded the game a perfect 10/10, highlighting its innovative approach to puzzles, beautiful graphics, and attention to detail.

We said in our review that Blue Prince is truly original, blending puzzle and roguelike elements in a way we haven’t seen before. It’s also very approachable – even if you don’t usually play puzzle games, we highly recommend it because the puzzles are challenging but not frustrating.
