The Straw Hat Pirates are fan favorites in One Piece, and many have been with Luffy since the start of his adventure. Beginning with just five members, the crew set sail for the dangerous Grand Line and gradually expanded. Now, nine pirates journey with Luffy, each pursuing their own goals while always supporting him when he needs it. Every member of the crew brings something special to the team and excels in their own way. Though not all are as visibly strong as Luffy, Zoro, or Sanji, they balance each other out perfectly, covering each other’s weaknesses with their strengths.
Their incredible teamwork and unwavering trust in each other are what make them so powerful, allowing them to overcome any obstacle they set their minds to. Even when they face setbacks, like the one in Sabaody, they use it as motivation to come back even stronger. One Piece is a deeply moving story with complex characters, which is why the most memorable moments aren’t always about battles. They’re often about the crew’s inner strength, determination, and refusal to give up, no matter how difficult things get.
10) Jinbe Stands Against Big Mom in Whole Cake Island

Although Jinbe didn’t formally join the Straw Hat crew until the Wano arc, he was already considered a member during the Whole Cake Island adventure. He’d been working with Big Mom to safeguard his people, but ultimately chose to abandon her crew and dedicate himself to Luffy’s voyage. Big Mom had a habit of punishing anyone trying to leave her service, and she did so by exploiting their deepest fears and turning them into a physical form.
She had the power to drastically shorten someone’s life, often resulting in their death. But Jinbe refused to be intimidated by this powerful woman, one of the Four Emperors. He confidently stated that as part of the future Pirate King’s crew, he wasn’t afraid of an Emperor, and then left her side. This bold declaration by Jinbe created an incredibly tense and memorable scene that fans were eagerly anticipating.
9) Brook Copies Big Mom’s Poneglyph

Brook isn’t the strongest member of the Straw Hat crew, but he’s fearless and would always accept a fight, even against one of the most powerful pirates in the world – a Four Emperor. Big Mom already possessed one of the Four Road Poneglyphs, which are essential for finding Laugh Tale. Because she knew many people were after the legendary treasure, she hid the Poneglyph in a secure, nearly impossible-to-reach place.
Brook intended to simply copy a Poneglyph for Robin to translate, but actually obtaining one proved very difficult. He faced off against Big Mom and skillfully avoided detection to steal it, bringing Luffy closer to his goal of becoming Pirate King.
8) Usopp Saves Dressrosa All By Himself

Sugar, a powerful member of the Donquixote Pirates, posed a major threat to the crew as they worked to free Dressrosa. She had the ability to turn people into toys and completely erase them from everyone’s memory. Many of these toys suffered for years, living miserable lives and forced to obey orders. Because of this, Usopp and his friends desperately searched for clever ways to defeat her and break the effects of her Devil Fruit power.
Things looked dire when Usopp accidentally ate an incredibly hot berry intended for Sugar. His frightening reaction scared Sugar, saving her victims from further suffering. Later, Sugar became dangerous again, and it fell to Usopp to stop her from turning Luffy and Trafalgar Law into toys. In a first for the series, he used Observation Haki to knock her out, preventing her from harming anyone else.
7) Franky Delivers One of The Most Powerful Quotes in One Piece

During the Enies Lobby Arc, Robin had lost almost all hope. Because she’d been hunted her whole life simply for existing, she believed she was only endangering the Straw Hats by staying with them. She decided to sacrifice herself to allow her crew to escape. However, Franky, who had experienced a different life, didn’t think she deserved such a fate.
He tells her that simply existing isn’t wrong, likely understanding it’s exactly what she needed to hear. This moment remains one of the most impactful in the series, with Franky’s brief statement shaking her to her core. These words also strongly reinforce the story’s central idea: everyone, including Robin, deserves the freedom to chase their dreams without being controlled or suppressed by the World Government.
6) Chopper Cures The Ice Oni Virus

Things went completely sideways during the raid on Onigashima when Queen unleashed this terrifying bio-weapon! It was a virus – the Oni Virus – that turned people into these horrifying, ice-covered demons with no control over themselves. And it wasn’t just a transformation; it actually enhanced their strength before ultimately killing them within an hour! It was absolute chaos, everyone was fighting for their lives, but our incredible doctor, the Straw Hats’ doctor, pulled off a miracle! They managed to find a cure, saving hundreds from a truly awful fate. It was unbelievable!
Chopper’s medical skills usually help him handle any emergency, but the Oni Virus was unlike anything he’d ever faced. Despite the immense pressure and limited time, the little reindeer was determined to do everything possible to save everyone he could.
5) Robin Declares Her Will to Live in Enies Lobby

As a child of eight, Robin witnessed the devastating massacre of her people and lived the rest of her life in constant fear of capture, made worse by a large bounty placed on her by the World Government. For twenty years, she simply existed, always looking for a place to belong, just as her friend, Jaguar D. Saul, had once believed she would find. Finally, she found a true home and a family with the Straw Hat Pirates aboard the Going Merry.
She had to give up everything she knew and loved to protect those she cared about, even risking her own life. Luffy repeatedly urging Robin to voice her desire wasn’t just a request – it was his way of helping her overcome her despair, and it succeeded. For the first time, Robin didn’t want to die; she wished for her friends to rescue her from that terrible situation.
4) Nami’s Faith in Luffy Can’t Be Broken

Nami gets frightened when facing strong enemies, but sometimes she has to stand her ground. As the ship’s navigator, she’s in charge of guiding her crew safely through dangerous waters. Although she carries a weapon, she’s not a strong fighter. That’s why, when she fought Ulti from the Beast Pirates, her best bet was to run, but escaping proved incredibly difficult.
To make matters even more upsetting, Ulti cruelly forced Nami to deny Luffy’s dream of becoming the Pirate King. She repeatedly headbutted Nami, trying to make her say something she didn’t believe. But even though Ulti was incredibly powerful, Nami wouldn’t betray her belief in Luffy. Like the rest of the Straw Hat crew, she firmly believed Luffy would achieve his goal, and she couldn’t bring herself to say anything to the contrary.
3) Sanji Saves Everyone in Alabasta

Sanji has often come to the rescue for his crewmates, but his clever plan during the Alabasta Arc stands out as his best. By pretending to be a prince – a brilliant move foreshadowed by the author, Eiichiro Oda – he successfully distracted Crocodile, giving his captured friends a chance to escape. Crocodile didn’t even realize Sanji was part of the Straw Hat crew for a long time, which allowed Sanji to carefully plan his rescue.
Crocodile intended to eliminate Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Vivi, and Usopp after trapping them, using fierce creatures called banana gators to attack. Just as Vivi was about to be overwhelmed by one of these monsters, Sanji dramatically appeared and saved her, creating one of the most memorable heroic moments in the story.
2) Zoro Takes Luffy’s Pain in Thriller Bark

Zoro has been Luffy’s loyal first mate since the very start of their journey. He was the first to confidently state that Luffy would one day become the Pirate King. Zoro pushes himself to become an even more powerful swordsman, driven both by his childhood promise and his belief that a future Pirate King deserves the strongest swordsman at his side.
Despite being determined to reach his own goal, Zoro didn’t hesitate to protect Luffy, even if it meant sacrificing himself. He bravely faced Bartholomew Kuma, who was looking for a strong opponent, and withstood all the pain Luffy had endured during the battle at Thriller Bark. Afterward, he famously said, “Nothing happened,” a line that has become legendary in the world of Shonen manga and anime.
1) Luffy Reached His Peak After His Gear 5 Transformation

Luffy’s journey is all about freedom, and he’s been helping people along the way from the very beginning. That’s why his Gear 5 transformation – the full, awakened power of his unique Devil Fruit – feels so perfect for him. It’s not just a stronger form; it’s a completely different level of power, unlike anything seen in most action stories, and it truly sets Luffy apart.
Luffy’s funny personality and infectious laughter keep the heart of the show alive, even during intense battles. Recently, major developments – including the full reveal of his Devil Fruit powers and his link to the legendary figure Joyboy – were shown simultaneously, creating a huge reaction from fans when the latest manga chapter and anime episode came out.
