Daniel Craig on Moving from James Bond to Narnia: ‘Enjoying It More Than Ever’

Daniel Craig is discussing his transition from playing James Bond to a new role in a Narnia film, and what he’s excited about for the project. He famously portrayed the sophisticated MI6 agent in five movies over fifteen years, beginning with Casino Royale and concluding with No Time to Die.

Daniel Craig first played the detective Benoit Blanc in the 2019 film Knives Out. He’s reprised the role in Glass Onion and Wake Up Dead Man, which had a limited theatrical release on November 26th and will be available on Netflix starting December 12th.

Craig will also appear in Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, playing the part of Uncle Andrew. He’s currently filming the movie, which is expected to hit theaters on November 26, 2026, and become available on Netflix on December 25, 2026.

In a recent interview with Radio Times magazine, Daniel Craig discussed his potential involvement in the upcoming film Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. He expressed a desire to finish filming before Christmas, as his holiday plans are contingent on the movie’s schedule. Craig also talked about enjoying roles that are different from James Bond, like Benoit Blanc in Knives Out and his planned role as Uncle Andrew in The Magician’s Nephew, stating:

I started breaking away from what was expected of me, becoming more open to new opportunities. Before, I might have hesitated, but now I’m saying yes to things I would have been unsure about. When I was involved with the Bond films, switching between that and other roles sometimes felt awkward. I’m working incredibly hard right now, but I’m also genuinely enjoying it more than ever. I’m getting to work on really fascinating and diverse projects.

In Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, Daniel Craig returns as detective Benoit Blanc in what’s being called his trickiest case yet. He’s investigating the baffling murder of a charismatic priest and must navigate a web of secrets and tensions within the priest’s devoted community to uncover the truth.

With Wake Me Up Dead Man, writer-director Rian Johnson has completed his two-film agreement with Netflix, a deal reportedly worth $450 million. Now that both Glass Onion and Wake Me Up Dead Man are finished, the future of the film series is unclear.

Daniel Craig might be starting a new film series with Narnia, adding to his success with James Bond and Knives Out. In July 2023, Greta Gerwig agreed to write and direct two Chronicles of Narnia movies for Netflix.
