Never

I’ve been captivated by the mesmerizing world of “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End,” where the first season presents a rich tapestry of compelling characters and poignant moments that draw viewers in, making us feel deeply immersed in this enchanting fantasy landscape. The joy I’ve experienced watching this anime is matched only by my appreciation for the depth of its characters, and there’s no denying that Frieren stands out as an extraordinary, if somewhat peculiar, mage.

With her title as a member of the party that vanquished the Demon King, Frieren is constantly hinted at being in a league of her own when it comes to magical prowess. In fact, she’s so far ahead of most mages in the series that we fans can hardly help but be awestruck by her incredible displays of magic. Her unique abilities leave us speechless and filled with wonder!

In the First-Class Mage Exam Arc, Frieren showcased her exceptional abilities, impressing even the renowned Sense so much that he made a memorable comment about her. Throughout this arc, viewers witnessed Frieren employ magic in innovative and thrilling ways, making her and Fern ideal candidates to pass these exams. However, during the first test, they were separated and paired with other mages as teammates. It was these teams that prompted Frieren to achieve what most considered impossible – breaking through the seemingly indestructible barrier spell cast by Serie. As Frieren accomplished the unthinkable, the higher-ranking mages watched in awe, gradually realizing the true nature of the elf and ensuring her team’s triumph over Denken’s team.

The Last Great Mage

In the initial stage of the First-Class Mage contest, each team consisted of three mages who aimed to capture a mythical creature known as Stille. Over time, viewers witnessed various skilled mages display their talents, while Frieren utilized her strategic prowess and teamwork abilities to formulate a successful capture strategy. Post the capture, Frieren’s group encountered a rival team headed by the Imperial Mage Denken. In this encounter, Frieren demonstrated the significant gap in power between top mages of the current age and herself, effortlessly testing Denken’s limits without showing any signs of exhaustion. The confrontation between them prompted a debate among the two First-Class Mages supervising the test. During this discussion, it was disclosed that the protective barrier enclosing the test area was believed to be indestructible, having been conjured by the elf Serie. However, it wasn’t long before Frieren demonstrated her ability to effortlessly dismantle the barrier.

Together with the collapse of the wall, there’s a significant quote that illuminates Frieren’s character within her series. As First Class Mage Genau declares his conviction that the wall will “never” fall, Sense counters with “Then ‘never’ is now,” as cracks spread across the entire area. In this pivotal moment, Frieren shattering the barrier symbolically represents “never,” and it carries deep meaning about Frieren’s identity within the broader storyline. During the test alone, Frieren’s destruction of the barrier enabled her teammates to overcome their adversaries and advance to the next stage.

Frieren, Never

In a playful twist, “Never is here” isn’t just a casual remark when referring to Frieren as a powerful mage; it’s an emphatic statement that underscores her unique abilities to rewrite reality itself. This extraordinary mage has already turned the world upside down and serves as an embodiment of the impossible for other mages in her world. Along with her band of heroes, she successfully disrupted the established order by vanquishing the Demon King and eliminating a significant number of demonic threats.

Interestingly, Frieren is also a mage who seems destined to thrive in times of tranquility, as hinted by her master, Flamme, who foresaw that Frieren would be the mage to bring about an era of peace because she could conceive of a peaceful world unlike the other war-mongering and power-hungry mages of her time.

From the onset of her adventure, Frieren was destined to be the mage who would transform the world and the “inevitable” one who would arrive. Himmel’s heroic journey began with her, and she was eventually persuaded to join the group by the very boy she had shown kindness towards. Throughout her journey, Frieren battled demons and other mages, eagerly anticipating the conclusion of these battles and the peace they promised. Known as The Last Great Mage, she is deeply engrossed in magic, enchanted by obscure and amusing spells that perform everyday tasks, yet she remains one of history’s deadliest mages. Frieren is more than just a Great Mage or hero; she embodies the impossible – she is the “never” that her world considers truly unattainable.
