Supergirl Star Milly Alcock May Have Just Spoiled a Major DCU Cameo in the New Movie

As a DC fan, I’m really excited about how James Gunn is building this new universe. He wants each movie and show to be enjoyable even if you haven’t followed everything else, so you don’t need to do a ton of research beforehand. But don’t think it’s totally separate – we will see characters and storylines connect! They’re keeping us guessing, which is fun. We already saw Peacemaker pop up in the Superman movie, and Lex Luthor became a big part of Peacemaker Season 2. The upcoming Supergirl movie seems to be mostly about Kara’s story, but rumor has it we’re still going to get at least one major surprise cameo from another corner of the DCU!

Milly Alcock, who plays Supergirl, recently shared that David Corenswet, who plays Superman, appears in the film. During a press conference with GamesRadar+, Alcock described a particularly challenging scene where she and Corenswet had to act in the fictional language, Kryptonian. She explained the scene was filmed in very cold weather – around 2 degrees – and that Corenswet quickly took on the difficult task of speaking the made-up language. Alcock said it was a tough day of shooting because the entire scene was performed in Kryptonian.

A Superman Cameo In Supergirl Makes Sense

Alcock didn’t share many details about David Corenswet’s role, but it’s likely he’ll only have a small part in Supergirl. A larger role could take focus away from Kara’s story. He probably appears in just a scene or two, similar to Alcock’s brief appearance at the end of Superman. Although the filmmakers likely wanted to keep Corenswet’s cameo a secret, rumors have been circulating since last fall that reshoots were happening to include Superman – which might explain why his costume wasn’t on display at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour.

Even though Superman might not be a central character in the upcoming Supergirl movie, it makes sense to include him. The film can explore the relationship between Kara and Kal-El, and it seems likely to address changes made to the story of their father, Jor-El. David Krumholtz, who plays Kara’s father Zor-El, has hinted at more details about the House of El. Since the history of the House of El was a major part of Superman’s story, Kal-El would likely be very interested in any new discoveries. Kara witnessed Krypton’s destruction firsthand, but Kal-El was just a baby when he was sent away, so anything about Krypton’s past would be especially intriguing to him.

The upcoming Supergirl series could introduce Brainiac, a major villain from the Superman mythos, laying the groundwork for his appearance in future DC Universe projects. While details are still under wraps, the show might connect Brainiac to the destruction of Krypton – a key part of his backstory in some DC comics. The Supergirl trailer already shows scenes of Krypton’s destruction and the survival of Argo City, suggesting a possible link. This could eventually lead to Superman teaming up with Lex Luthor, as seen in plans for a 2027 film.

No matter how Superman’s appearance on Supergirl connects to the bigger DC Universe, it’ll be great to see these two heroes interact again. Their quick scene in Superman was memorable, really showing how different they are. While Kal-El and Kara Zor-El have very different views on life because of their pasts, they’re still family, which makes their relationship special. It will also be interesting to hear them speak Kryptonian and see when they choose to switch to other languages. Superman didn’t explore Kryptonian culture much, so Supergirl has a chance to expand on that part of the DC Universe.
