3 Great Anime of 2025 That Could Have Been Even Better

2025 was a fantastic year for anime, with something for everyone. Many shows were excellent, boasting compelling stories and originality. However, even the best ones had flaws that prevented them from reaching their absolute peak. These issues, unfortunately, held them back from being truly perfect.

We’ve reviewed three anime from 2025 that were consistently well-made. While all were good, each one could have been truly exceptional with a few tweaks to the story or how it was presented.

3) Dragon Ball Daima

Despite starting in October 2024 and running until February 2025, Dragon Ball Daima quickly became one of the most popular anime of the year. The series successfully tapped into nostalgia by revisiting classic elements from earlier Dragon Ball stories, though its use of fusion didn’t quite live up to that potential.

It’s particularly disappointing because the series initially hinted at a massive fusion involving potentially three characters, promising a powerful new being. This was a great chance for Daima to really build on a classic Dragon Ball idea and create something special. However, the story didn’t deliver on that promise, preventing it from becoming a truly memorable addition to the franchise and a nostalgic experience for longtime fans.

2) Gachiakuta

From the start, Gachiakuta has established itself as a modern shonen anime, demonstrating the power of a revenge-fueled protagonist. The series consistently challenges common shonen conventions, but it’s the protagonist, Rudo, who truly makes the story feel new and exciting. Seeing Rudo given the opportunity to get revenge by joining the villains hinted that the show was ready to take a daring path.

The story initially suggested Rudo would be a different kind of shonen hero, breaking away from common tropes. However, it ultimately changed course, making him a more traditional hero who prioritizes his friends. Given that Gachiakuta centered on Rudo’s quest for revenge, it would have been a more logical and compelling narrative if he’d fully embraced his darker side and aligned himself with the villains. Taking that path could have made Gachiakuta a truly unique and outstanding shonen series.

1) Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle

The anime film Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has been a massive success, quickly becoming one of the most memorable anime releases in years – and it’s likely to be talked about long after 2025. While nearly flawless, its considerable length and the way the story unfolds ultimately prevent it from being truly perfect.

Honestly, the Infinity Castle storyline wasn’t really designed to be condensed into one movie. It unfolds slowly and works much better as a longer series. Ufotable even had to remove some details from the original manga just to make it fit the movie’s runtime, which shows it would have been a better fit for a full season. A series would have also allowed the studio to add more details and original content, similar to what they did with the Hashira Training arc.
