7 Times Nobara Kugisaki Was the Best Character in Jujutsu Kaisen

Warning! This article contains spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen manga.

Nobara Kugisaki instantly stood out when she joined Jujutsu Kaisen as a powerful and independent sorcerer. She’s incredibly talented and doesn’t let anyone, especially the male characters, outshine her. In a series often filled with darkness and sadness, Nobara offers a refreshing dose of realism and humor. She’s the emotional center of her team with Megumi and Yuji, and her playful personality provides much-needed comedic relief. Despite her confident exterior, Nobara is truly courageous, always thinking strategically, and deeply loyal to her friends.

Nobara consistently delivers fantastic scenes that prove she’s essential to the core group and a fan favorite throughout the series.

7) She Wrestled Mai Zenin Barehandedly After Being Shot (& Won)

Aoi Todo and Mai Zenin, two students from Kyoto, made a striking entrance at Jujutsu High’s Tokyo campus. Todo immediately challenged Megumi, upset with his answer to a question about his ideal woman, while Mai targeted Nobara, rapidly firing cursed energy bullets at her. Although Nobara appeared defeated on the ground, Mai overestimated her own abilities and underestimated Nobara’s strength.

Even after being shot four times with cursed energy at point-blank range, Nobara unexpectedly attacks Mai using only her physical strength and determination. Furious that Mai damaged her new clothes, Nobara quickly overpowers her, taking her down and securing a tight hold from behind through sheer force of will and aggression.

6) She Pushed Yuji to Be a Better Sorcerer During Their First Joint Mission

Nobara’s first mission with Yuji Itadori was designed by Gojo to evaluate their teamwork and abilities in a real fight against cursed spirits. Yuji was a little unsure at first, but Nobara immediately took charge and confidently jumped into action.

During the mission, Nobara and Yuji clashed when she challenged him to overcome his fear, encouraging him to fully accept his powers as a sorcerer – even giving him a swift kick to the stomach to prove her point. This interaction defined their relationship, with Nobara consistently pushing both Megumi and Yuji to be more courageous and dedicated.

5) Her Backstory Proves She’s Been a Force of Nature Since Childhood

During the intense events in Shibuya, we learn about what made Nobara the strong person she is today. Through a flashback narrated by Nobara herself, we see her childhood and the close bonds she formed with people in her small town. This includes a special connection with a defiant older girl whom Nobara looked up to, even though others in the town didn’t approve of her.

Nobara has always been strong-willed and independent – it’s simply part of her personality. This explains why she left her home to become a jujutsu sorcerer in Tokyo, wanting to live authentically and use her abilities to help people.

4) Trash Talking Mahito During Shibuya Incident

The Shibuya Incident was a time of intense chaos and destruction, and it was during this crisis that Nobara first encountered the dangerous cursed spirit, Mahito. Even in such a terrifying situation, she remained remarkably calm and brave. Instead of showing fear, she boldly faced Mahito, who casually asked her if she recognized him.

In the English dub of the show, Nobara (voiced by Anne Yatco) boldly insulted Mahito, calling him a coward despite his reputation. This fearless act demonstrated Nobara’s incredible strength and composure, even while facing a dangerous, possibly deadly, fight.

3) She Used Her Painful Technique on Her Own Arm Without Hesitation

Wow, that fight against Eso and Kechizu, the Death Womb Painting siblings, was absolutely insane! It really pushed Nobara and me – I mean, Yuji – to our breaking points. They poisoned us with their Decay technique, and thankfully, being a vessel for Sukuna somehow let me fight it off. But Nobara… she was in serious trouble. Honestly, she was almost gone, but she wouldn’t give up, not for anything!

In a daring and desperate move, she turned her own skills against herself, using a hammer and nails on her poisoned arm. By applying her unique Straw Doll Technique: Resonance to herself, she essentially became a proxy target for her brothers, causing her attack to bounce back and hit them instead. This showed just how far she was willing to go to win.

2) Her Feminist Stance During Her Fight With Momo

During the intense battle at the Kyoto Goodwill Event, Nobara fought against Momo Nishimiya. When Momo tried to justify Mai Zenin’s actions because of her gender, Nobara directly criticized Momo’s narrow perspective and the limitations placed on female sorcerers.

Nobara makes it very clear to Momo that she doesn’t care about traditional ideas of what it means to be a man or a woman. She tells Momo to keep those expectations to themselves, explaining that she loves herself both when she looks beautiful and when she’s strong and capable. This moment truly shows Nobara’s confidence and how she embraces her full self, rejecting limiting gender roles.

1) Her Eleventh-Hour Return to Cinch the Final Blow Against Sukuna

During the intense final battle against the powerful King of Curses, Sukuna, a surprising turn of events occurred. Nobara, who everyone believed had died in the Shibuya Incident, was revealed to be alive. She had been in a coma for months but woke up just when she was needed most, offering crucial help to her friends and the entire jujutsu world.

She immediately started her attack after waking up, using her Straw Doll Technique: Resonance on the last piece of Sukuna that Gojo had protected. This well-timed attack weakened Sukuna just enough for Yuji to deliver the final, decisive strike.
