Hugh Jackman was slick as Gaston in this specific production of Beauty and the Beast.

Early in his career, back in the 1990s, the actor had an on-stage accident while performing in a musical version of a Disney movie in Australia.

Hugh recounted on The Howard Stern Show on December 10th that when he lifted his dog, Belle, he accidentally leaked a small amount of urine.

The 57-year-old explained that he was concerned the audience would notice he was wearing red tights, so he had to think fast and react in the moment.

Hugh remembered thinking, ‘Oh no!’ Belle noticed he’d stopped singing and asked what was wrong. He’d just been pacing back and forth.

He explained that near the end of the song, he faced a difficult decision. He could either attempt the high F sharp note and risk straining his voice, or avoid it and feel embarrassed.

Hugh Jackman truly lived up to his reputation as a showman, pouring all of his energy into the performance. He described being completely lost in the moment, saying, “I started singing, and it just kept flowing. It was unstoppable.”

For a split second, Hugh Jackman believed he’d successfully pulled off the stunt. While performing, he glanced down and realized his hands weren’t connected to anything.

He remembered thinking the tight-fitting pants felt like a wetsuit, and jokingly imagining his boot was full of urine.

But, as it turned out, other crew members did notice his gaffe.

Hugh explained that during a performance, his dresser was positioned where she could see his crotch. He noticed afterward that he was soaked with sweat, and it had visibly seeped through his clothes within just a few minutes after finishing the song.

After that, Hugh appeared in several stage shows, including a Broadway revival of The Music Man with Sutton Foster, who is now his girlfriend.

Hugh joked that after accidentally urinating on stage, nothing could ever embarrass him again.
