Publisher Kepler Interactive and Shapefarm, a developer based in Tokyo, have revealed Orbitals, a co-op adventure game inspired by classic retro anime. It’s scheduled to launch on the Switch 2 in 2026.
Here is an overview of the game, via Kepler Interactive:
Okay, so I just checked out Orbitals, and it’s the first game from this cool indie team, Shapefarm, based in Tokyo. What’s really neat is it was built from the start for totally asymmetrical multiplayer – meaning me and a friend can jump in and have a completely different experience, which is awesome! It’s unlike anything I’ve played before, honestly.
In Orbitals, you play as Maki and Omura, two determined but inexperienced explorers. As a team, they must navigate the dangers of space to save their space station from a powerful, otherworldly storm. Players will work together using special tools, piloting through asteroid fields, and enjoying the game’s vibrant anime-inspired world, all while strengthening their friendship on an exciting intergalactic journey.

Built using Unreal Engine 5, Orbitals is designed to fully utilize the power of the Nintendo Switch 2, offering a fantastic cooperative experience no matter how you choose to play. You can team up locally with a friend using two sets of Joy-Con 2 controllers for split-screen action, share the game with another player using the system’s GameShare feature (on a compatible Switch or Switch 2), or connect online with friends. The Nintendo Switch 2’s microphone and GameChat ensure clear communication, letting players around the world work together as a unified team to achieve victory.
Orbitals is a game that beautifully captures the look and feel of classic Japanese anime. Created by the Tokyo-based Shapefarm studio, it’s filled with authentic details and a clear love for the art form. The game features a brand new world inspired by anime from the early 90s, brought to life in a unique way. To further enhance the experience for anime fans, Shapefarm collaborated with Studio Massket – the animation studio behind many popular anime series – to create hand-drawn cutscenes. With both Japanese and English voiceovers, Orbitals aims to be a cooperative adventure that celebrates and honors the anime style.
