One observes, with a melancholy detachment, that the trifling costs associated with shifting these digital whatsits – XRP, if you must know – have rather dramatically plummeted. A sign, naturally, of a network experiencing something akin to a prolonged afternoon nap. 😴
XRP Transaction Fee Has Dropped To 650 Tokens Per Day
Glassnode, a firm dedicated to peering into the digital entrails of blockchains (one can only imagine the expense of the crystal ball), has noticed this curious phenomenon. The ‘Total Transaction Fees’ indicator, a metric of impressive verbosity, appears to be languishing. It measures, rather predictably, the fees attached to each transaction. One suspects the numbers are perfectly accurate, though the significance remains, shall we say, open to interpretation.
One is reminded of Bitcoin and Ethereum-those vulgar displays of cryptographic ambition-where validators are rewarded for their efforts. Bitcoin’s ‘miners’, bless their power-hungry hearts, and Ethereum’s ‘stakers’, are compensated with rather large sums of money. A sensible arrangement, really.
XRP, however, prefers a more… ascetic approach. Validators, it seems, are motivated by trust and the good opinion of their peers. A positivist fantasy. Instead of rewards, the fees are simply destroyed. A rather dramatic waste, if you ask me. Imagine burning banknotes simply for the pleasure of it! But then, one doesn’t expect reason from the digitally inclined.
Obviously, increased activity leads to higher fees, and a dearth of activity leads to… well, you’ve guessed it. A drop in fees. This seems almost startlingly obvious, doesn’t it?
Behold, the graph-a convoluted mess of lines that purports to illustrate this profound truth:
Apparently, early 2025 saw a frenzy of activity, with users flinging tokens about like confetti – paying a staggering 5,900 tokens daily in fees. Since then, the situation has…calmed. Today, a mere 650 tokens are sacrificed to the digital void. A decline of 89%, they assure us, with the solemnity of a coroner’s report. It hasn’t been this quiet since December 2020. One almost misses the excitement.
XRP Price
And the price, naturally, has suffered a corresponding malaise. Back down to $2.00, it seems. One wonders if anyone is particularly bothered.
