Mike P. Nelson, the director of the new film Silent Night, Deadly Night, just released his remake, but he’s already thinking about his next horror project. He previously demonstrated his love for Friday the 13th, and now he’s revealed he’s submitted an idea for a future Jason Voorhees movie. Nelson says it’s up to the producers now, but if they approve his pitch, he plans to offer a new and interesting take on the familiar horror series.
The director recently spoke with Slash Film while promoting Silent Night, Deadly Night, and used the interview to discuss his involvement with the Jason Universe. Following the legal issues surrounding Friday the 13th, Horror Inc. created the Jason Universe as a new brand. Robbie Barsamian, a company executive, later shared that they were developing a new Friday the 13th film under this new branding. The director then revealed he’s already submitted a proposal for the project.
I know they’re actively working on this, and I’ve been in direct contact with them about it. It’s definitely moving forward. Several people, including myself, have shared our thoughts and suggestions. Now it’s up to them to decide how to proceed, and we’ll see what happens next.
The director didn’t reveal many details about his plans for a new Friday the 13th movie, but he did explain why he thinks many recent revivals of older franchises haven’t been successful. He believes they often rely too heavily on the original ideas instead of trying something new, as Nelson stated.
Many creative projects lose their appeal when they become overly cautious and preachy. It’s important to just take risks and try new things. The original, successful work resonated because someone actually did something bold and unique. We should be doing the same – embracing different approaches instead of being afraid to fail.
Fans of the Friday the 13th series can look forward to a new show called Crystal Lake on Peacock. While it won’t feature the iconic masked killer, the series will explore the origins of the story and show how the original Friday the 13th came to be. Filming finished some time ago, but Peacock hasn’t announced when it will be released yet.
Jason Voorhees Returned in ‘Sweet Revenge’ — Then Suddenly Vanished

Jason Universe
After a long legal dispute lasting over ten years, the famous horror villain Jason Voorhees made a comeback in 2025. He appeared in a short film called Sweet Revenge, which was a unique partnership between the drink company Angry Orchard and the new owners of the Friday the 13th franchise, Horror Inc. Directed by Nelson, the film showed Jason engaging in his typical terrifying acts and gave fans a preview of what a new Friday the 13th movie could be like.
The short film Sweet Revenge, which was part of the recent wave of content expanding the Friday the 13th universe, is no longer available on YouTube. According to the social media account @F13thFranchise, its removal may be due to the end of a sponsorship deal with Angry Orchard.
While the new version of Jason wasn’t quite the same as fans remembered – his appearance and movements felt a little different – Sweet Revenge was still important. It was the first time in over ten years that the character had been revisited, and Nelson actually did a great job re-introducing Jason and setting up a compelling story in just fifteen minutes. If Horror Inc. approves his ideas, we can expect him to take the character in a fresh direction, something he hinted at in the now-unavailable Sweet Revenge footage.
