Fans are eagerly awaiting the fifth and final season of The Boys, which will debut on April 8, 2026. And it looks like it will be a particularly violent season! Karl Urban, who plays Billy Butcher, recently suggested that many characters will die, possibly very early on. During a panel discussion at FAN EXPO, led by Joe Deckelmeier from Screen Rant and MovieWeb, Urban indicated that the first episode will feature significant character deaths, and that viewers should be prepared for emotional losses.
Earlier this year, Eric Kripke hinted at major character deaths. In an interview with Deadline, he said viewers shouldn’t expect a peaceful ending, stating that “many characters will likely die” and that no one’s survival is certain. Certain characters on the Prime Video series seem particularly vulnerable, given their actions, health conditions, and how their stories play out in the original comic books.

A-Train

Prime Video
As a big fan of The Boys, I’ve been fascinated by A-Train’s journey. He started out pretty awful, instantly becoming a villain when he accidentally killed Hughie’s girlfriend and then covered it up. Things got even darker when Homelander ordered him to kill his own girlfriend, Popclaw. After getting kicked out of The Seven because he was overusing Compound V, he tried to get back in Vought’s good graces by leaking information about Stormfront. But honestly, I think he started turning things around when he took down Blue Hawk, that terrible, racist Supe. From then on, he actually started helping The Boys fight against Vought, which was a surprisingly cool development.
Now that A-Train has been exposed as a traitor and is hiding in Europe, he’s a prime target, and the intimidating Homelander is likely to find him. While A-Train is currently free from his usual responsibilities, the Season 5 premiere will immediately feel dangerous. Adding to his troubles, A-Train has a history of heart problems. Although this issue seems resolved for now, his reliance on super speed means it could easily return.
Even though it seems likely he’ll meet a bad end, many people are still rooting for the former villain from The Seven. While it’s unclear how A-Train might die, it’s become more unpredictable because his death in the comic books didn’t happen as expected. In the original story, he wasn’t redeemed and was ultimately captured by Butcher and killed by Hughie, who was furious after hearing A-Train boast about Robin’s death.

The Deep

Prime Video
Deep faces serious accountability for his actions. He’s committed terrible acts – sexually assaulted Starlight, killed Timothy the octopus, murdered people for Homelander, and even killed the popular Ambrosius, among other things. Despite being constantly belittled and seen as insignificant, he continues to desperately seek validation. But what is he hoping to achieve?
Arthur, a financially struggling Aquaman, has been facing serious trouble for a long time, and many are surprised he’s still around. He’s probably going to face consequences for his actions in the upcoming season. We predict Starlight will be the one to get revenge on him for what he did to her earlier in the series – it’s a very likely outcome. And it’s a good bet that Hughie will be there when it happens.
In the comic books, The Deep has a change of heart at the last second and decides he doesn’t want to support Homelander’s plans for America. He goes into hiding to avoid being part of Vought’s operation, and later returns when the company changes its image. However, it’s unlikely this will happen in the TV show, as many viewers want to see him punished. Fans are demanding a severe consequence for his actions – they want him ‘canceled’ completely.

Mother’s Milk

Prime Video
Driven by a desire for revenge against Vought, Mother’s Milk teams up with The Boys after Soldier Boy murdered his grandfather and his father died trying to avenge him. He had been trying to live a normal life with his wife, Monique, and daughter, Janine, but quickly becomes a vital part of the group, which puts a huge strain on his marriage and ultimately leads to divorce. Things get even more complicated when Monique starts dating someone who supports Homelander. As the series progresses, Mother’s Milk takes charge, leading the team and bringing A-Train on board as an informant.
Everyone generally likes M.M., even when he makes mistakes, largely because he always seems confused and lost. While it would be upsetting to see him die, it feels inevitable given the unfortunate way his story has unfolded. In a fight, Butcher overpowers M.M. and shockingly shoves a grenade into his mouth. The grenade explodes, severely injuring M.M. As he weakly tries to call for his mother, Butcher suffocates him.
Butcher and M.M. frequently disagree, often finding themselves at odds due to differing beliefs. This mirrors their dynamic in the original comics, and another conflict seems inevitable. With rumors suggesting Butcher is becoming increasingly unstable, the next clash could be particularly damaging.
3
Frenchie

Prime Video
Frenchie is a highly skilled and resourceful character who’s been crucial to the team’s success. He’s played a key role in major events, including eliminating Translucent, rescuing Kimiko, getting inside Sage Grove, weakening Soldier Boy, and trying to take down Neuman. Beyond his skills, Frenchie has also been involved in a compelling romantic relationship with Colin, despite the fact that he was responsible for the death of Colin’s family.
Frenchie faces a similar tragic end to the character The Frenchman from the comic books. In issue #69 of The Boys, Frenchie realizes Butcher has planted explosives that are about to go off. Accepting his death, he shares his love with Kimiko before being killed in the blast.
Frenchie’s courage and drive have been essential in turning The Boys into a notorious team fighting injustice. Despite his strong beliefs, he occasionally struggles with empathy, uncertainty, and a basic instinct to survive, which sometimes clashes with his principles. In a very violent show, he surprisingly makes us dislike the bloodshed, seeing it as disgusting. His loss would be deeply felt.

Billy Butcher

Prime Video
Butcher is quickly becoming a legendary antihero on television, but his actions are raising the question of whether he’s turning into a full-blown villain. At the beginning of The Boys, he’s a leader who genuinely tries to protect Becca and Ryan. However, as he becomes increasingly desperate and frustrated, he resorts to taking Temp V to gain superpowers and allies himself with Soldier Boy to take on Homelander. Things take a darker turn when a tumor gives him tentacle-like powers, leading him to steal the supe virus and ultimately betray his own team.
The Prime Video series has been skillfully made with a lot of attention to detail. It asks viewers to understand Butcher’s harsh actions as both brutal and cleverly planned. However, things are about to shift. The original comics slowly build tension, leading to a shocking climax where Butcher, now completely unstable, decides to eliminate all superheroes worldwide. Ultimately, Hughie stops him on the Empire State Building, preventing Butcher from detonating explosives that would kill anyone with powers.
Fans are predicting this storyline, or something similar, will happen in Season 5. It’s just too compelling to ignore. Plus, many popular TV villains meet their end in the final episode – think Walter White, Jax Teller, and Tony Soprano. Given that pattern, it’s highly unlikely Butcher will survive.
1
Homelander

Prime Video
At first, Homelander acts like the perfect hero, carefully hiding his disturbing personality and pretending to be a classic Superman figure. However, after his alliance with Stormfront falls apart and he learns about his real father, Soldier Boy, he stops pretending. He fully embraces being a villain, takes charge of Vought International, and aims to control the entire country.
A new poster for Season 5 depicts Homelander surveying the world, suggesting he’s taken over. However, his reign probably won’t last. While Homelander is incredibly powerful and has faced many enemies, it seems likely he’ll eventually be defeated. Given their long-standing and bitter rivalry, it would be fitting if Butcher were the one to finally kill him.
The comic books show Black Noir killing the leader of The Seven, but that won’t happen in the show. Black Noir, in either version, isn’t a strong enough character to pull off such a big moment – it would feel pointless. If it’s not Butcher who defeats Homelander, then Hughie is the most logical choice.
