You Need 6 Hours To Watch Two Incredible Sci-Fi Movies This Weekend (The Sequel Releases Next Week)

James Cameron’s Avatar films were groundbreaking. They broke box office records, revitalized 3D cinema, and raised the bar for visual effects, fundamentally changing the movie industry.

The story continues with Avatar: Fire and Ash, scheduled to be released on December 19th. This new film follows just three years after Avatar: The Way of Water, and sixteen years after the original Avatar. Both previous movies were amazing examples of large-scale science fiction, and the adventures of Jake Sully and the Na’vi people on Pandora have resonated with audiences worldwide for years.

Now Is The Perfect Time To Watch Avatar & Avatar: The Way Of Water

No matter if you’re new to the world of Avatar or a longtime fan, this weekend is a great time to watch the first two movies. With the upcoming release of With Fire and Ash, rewatching or discovering the earlier films is the perfect way to prepare for the new one in theaters.

While the Avatar movies are quite long – longer than many films – their combined runtime is actually shorter than watching an entire TV series in one go. The first two Avatar films take just under six hours to watch altogether.

The first Avatar movie is quite long at 2 hours and 42 minutes, but the sequel, The Way of Water, is even longer, running 3 hours and 12 minutes. Watching both movies completely, including the credits, would take a total of 5 hours and 54 minutes.

With its extended runtime, Avatar: Fire and Ash is now the longest film in the series, meaning watching all the Avatar movies will take considerably more time overall.

Because neither movie has a post-credits scene, you can shorten your viewing time by skipping the credits. However, it’s a good idea to set aside around six hours to watch both films comfortably, allowing time for breaks and snacks so you can fully enjoy the experience.

Where You Can Watch Both Avatar Movies Before Fire & Ash’s Release

If you missed seeing the first two Avatar movies in theaters, you can still enjoy them at home this week. Both Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water are now available to stream on Disney+ for all subscribers.

No matter how you get Disney+, whether it’s a standalone subscription or as part of a package, you can easily watch Cameron’s popular films at home. This is a great way to make time to see both movies this weekend and get ready for the upcoming release of Fire and Ash.

If you don’t have Disney+, you can still rent or buy the Avatar movies online. Prime Video, Apple TV+, and Fandango At Home all offer both films.

I’ve been checking where to watch this, and it looks like Prime Video is the slightly cheaper option for renting, at $3.79. Apple and Fandango both rent it for $3.99. If I wanted to buy it, Prime Video and Apple both have it for $19.99, but Fandango is a bit pricier at $24.99.

There are plenty of ways to prepare, so everyone can enjoy the upcoming release of Avatar: Fire and Ash next weekend. Watching these now will have you completely ready!
