In Season 2 of “Dandadan“, the narrative centers heavily around Jiji, a key character from the show, as he occupies a significant, pivotal position within the Cursed House and Evil Eye storylines. Jiji was initially presented towards the end of the first season. He is Momo’s earliest crush, who previously teased her for her faith in supernatural entities, only to later feel remorseful about his past actions. Upon relocating to a quaint village, Jiji and his family have been experiencing various misfortunes. His parents became hospitalized, leading him to suspect that the malevolent spirit haunting their new home is to blame.
In their quest to banish a troublesome spirit, he consulted multiple exorcists and psychics, yet none succeeded. With no other options left, he turned to Granny Seiko for aid, who dispatched Momo on the task. Unwittingly, Okarun accompanied them, and the trio ventured into the Haunted Mansion unsure of what lay in store. The second season unveils the mysteries surrounding the Malevolent Gaze as well as another being dwelling there for more than two centuries. Amidst the tumult, Jiji succumbs to the Malevolent Gaze, but an important motive surfaces as to why this had to happen to him.
Jiji’s Unparalleled Spiritual Power Makes Him a Perfect Vessel for the Evil Eye
Initially, Seiko often referred to Jiji as a “genius,” but it turns out her compliments weren’t just affectionate gestures; she was well aware of his extraordinary abilities long before he made his debut. As someone who has known him since childhood and considers him like a grandson, it’s natural for Seiko to be fond of him. However, what she didn’t reveal is that Jiji’s spiritual power is unparalleled, particularly for a human. Moreover, his physical strength is exceptional due to his years spent playing sports. Furthermore, Jiji was the only one immune to the Tsuchinoko’s suicidal psychic waves, a testament to his immense spiritual power. In essence, Jiji makes an ideal host for a powerful Yokai such as the Evil Eye.
For over two hundred years, the malevolent spirit known as the Evil Eye has been roaming through the house, demanding sacrifices during its time. Yet, none of these offerings proved fitting enough to serve as its container until Jiji. Since being inhabited by this force, Jiji’s power has dramatically increased, even overpowering Momo and Okaru. Unfortunately, Jiji’s original consciousness has been completely erased, leaving behind a vengeful spirit intent on annihilating all human beings it encounters. In the next Season 2 Episode 3, we will witness an intense battle between Momo and Jiji, which is expected to be the most exhilarating fight in the anime series to date as they continue their fierce struggle.
