Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic Director Addresses 2030 Release Date Rumor

The director of the upcoming game, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, recently responded to rumors suggesting it won’t be released until 2030. They explained that game development has changed significantly in recent years. While games used to be made in just a few years – Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, for example, was created in a year and a half, though it felt rushed – modern games now often take much longer, sometimes up to five years or more after their initial announcement.

The announcement of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic was a major highlight of The Game Awards. The game is being developed by Arcanaut Studios, led by Casey Hudson – the original director of Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect series. It’s designed as a spiritual successor to KOTOR, promising player choices, engaging battles, and a full single-player RPG experience within the Star Wars galaxy.

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic Will Be Out Before 2030, Says Game Director

Many fans were disappointed to discover that development of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic only started when the studio launched in July. This suggested the game was still years away, with some predicting a release date in the 2030s given its ambitious scope. However, the game’s director, Hudson, recently addressed these concerns on social media, denying the claims and assuring fans that Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic will be released before 2030, jokingly adding that he doesn’t have that much time left!

Ignore the talk about the game not coming out until 2030. It will be released much sooner than that! I’m not getting any younger, so it won’t be a long wait.

This game has a limited timeframe for release. With the 2026 deadline approaching quickly, a launch next year or the year after seems unlikely. While 2028 is a possibility, 2029 feels more realistic. Even then, that’s still quite a ways off and not a sure thing. Getting it ready by 2028 would be a big undertaking for a new studio, especially considering they’ll probably need to expand their team significantly to finish the game.

Development is often uncertain, and the game could potentially be delayed, possibly even until the 2030s. However, the current goal seems to be to release Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic within the next five years. Let’s hope we receive regular updates on this project, unlike what happened with Star Wars Eclipse and the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake, where information was scarce for a long time.
