Over the past few weeks, the WWE scene has been filled with unexpected title shifts as a flurry of new champions emerged across their three brands. Fans have recently witnessed Giulia being crowned the Women’s United States Champion on SmackDown, and Finn Balor & JD McDonagh claiming the WWE Tag Team Championship on Monday Night Raw in quick succession. Tonight, during SmackDown, another title change occurred, making it yet another addition to this expanding list of champions. This latest victory marks a significant milestone for one of WWE’s most lethal factions as they now hold the title gold.
On SmackDown, The Street Profits entered with a sense of self-assuredness, having successfully navigated through some tough competition from the Tag Team division lately. Tonight, they were set to square off against Dexter Lumis and Joe Gacy from The Wyatt Sicks in a replay of their match held in Saudi Arabia earlier. However, that previous encounter was cut short due to interference from the rest of the division.
In tonight’s episode, the Wyatt Sicks had a second opportunity to defeat the Champions, and they started off powerfully, but Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins managed to counterattack and seemed to shift the momentum of the match. An interesting aspect is that unlike other teams, the Wyatt Sicks were allowed to remain at ringside during this bout, which ultimately worked against the Street Profits.
During a moment when the ref wasn’t looking, Erick Rowan sneakily tripped up Ford just as he was about to secure the victory. This action prompted Dawkins to pursue retribution. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned, leaving Ford vulnerable against Gacy and Lumis. The duo skillfully evaded Ford’s move from the top rope and retaliated with their Tag Team finisher. With that, the Street Profits were defeated, and the Wyatt Sicks now proudly hold the Tag Team Championships.
The Wyatt Family has been receiving overwhelming support from fans since their initial appearance. However, their presence and storylines on television have not been as well-received. Following their first feud, they seemed to vanish from TV for a while, which was rumored to be due to an injury. Regardless, this group was inactive until their shift to SmackDown. Their debut on the blue brand came a little later, and it was uncertain if Alexa Bliss would be part of their return as well. However, it appears that she will not be joining them in this transition.
Ever since their comeback, the Wyatt Sicks have become a focal point in the Tag Team Division. Most other teams are too intimidated even to engage with them, let alone square off against them in the ring. On SmackDown, they’ve left a path of destruction behind at different instances, and now they reign supreme at the top of the Division. It will be intriguing to observe who their next significant rival will be now that they possess the championship title.
