2025 has been an exciting year for Star Wars, and it’s finishing strong with some important news. We’re starting to see what’s next for the franchise, and in 2026, we can look forward to a new movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, finally bringing Star Wars back to theaters. After concentrating on TV shows for a while, Lucasfilm is now prioritizing films again.
Even though movie releases might be slowing down, Lucasfilm has been making some exciting announcements recently that fans will love. These announcements could really reinvigorate the franchise. Here’s a look at the three biggest reveals they’ve made in the past few days.
Star Wars: The Fate of the Old Republic
The highly anticipated Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is shaping up to be a true successor to the beloved original Knights of the Old Republic games. Excitingly, Casey Hudson, who directed the original KotOR and is a former BioWare employee, is leading the project. While development is just beginning, Hudson has assured fans on social media that the game won’t take until 2030 to release. With Hudson at the helm, it’s sure to be a game worth waiting for.
Details about the story of Fate of the Old Republic are still scarce, with the trailer only showing a mysterious Jedi. Some fans think this Jedi might be Bastila Shan, who was married to Revan in the original Knights of the Old Republic games (though those stories are no longer considered official canon). Others believe the title hints at the end of the Old Republic period, specifically the last conflict between the Jedi and Sith during Darth Bane’s time. Until we learn more, anything could happen.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer
Following up is Star Wars: Galactic Racer, another racing game in the popular Star Wars series. The game takes place between the events of the original Star Wars films and the sequels, and features recognizable planets like Jakku – the desert world where Rey grew up. The game’s trailer is a fitting tribute to the tenth anniversary of The Force Awakens.
The game is set within the Star Wars universe at a time when familiar faces like Sebulba were around. Because Han Solo was known to participate in underground racing during this period, many players are excited about the possibility he’ll be a playable character in Galactic Racer. This has created a lot of buzz among gamers.
The Shadow of Maul

A new five-issue comic book series will serve as a prequel to the upcoming Darth Maul Star Wars TV show. Written by Benjamin Percy with art by Madibek Musabeckov, it begins on March 4, 2026, and delves into what happened after Order 66 – an event Darth Maul only survived with assistance from Ahsoka. The comic will also introduce readers to Janix, a criminal city that plays a key role in the new TV series.
Percy described the project as a noir story featuring police officers and powerful criminal organizations, set in a dark and secretive city full of hidden truths. He’s collaborating with Madibek Musabeckov, a renowned Star Wars artist, whose realistic style perfectly suits the story’s mood. They’ve been working closely with Lucasfilm, studying the scripts and episodes of a new animated series, and their story will act as a lead-in to the events viewers will see unfold on screen.
