The BBC has announced the release date for season 15 of Call the Midwife, before its two-part Christmas special airs.
The new season, with eight episodes, premieres on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday, January 11th at 8pm.
The fifteenth season of Call the Midwife will explore the Women’s Liberation Movement, beginning in 1971 with a scene of some of the characters protesting outside Nonnatus House by burning their bras.
The next episode will cover several important and current health and social issues, such as early childbirth, placenta previa, kidney cancer, tuberculosis, and the history of slavery, as detailed in the official description.
Production for season 15 began in May, and fans of the historical drama received a sneak peek in June – a behind-the-scenes photo revealed that Teddy Berriman would be returning for the new season.
Berriman first appeared in season 14 as a young boy named Andrew Trottwood. He had a disability caused by measles he contracted as a toddler, and quickly became a beloved character among viewers.

As a huge Call the Midwife fan, I’m so excited for the Christmas special and season 15! But it gets even better – I just heard they’re also working on a prequel series and a film! There’s so much more of Nonnatus House to come, and I can’t wait!
The new series will take place in Poplar during World War II, revealing more about the stories of the nuns and midwives at Nonnatus House. A film is also planned, set in 1972 in an international location that hasn’t been announced yet, and it will include familiar faces from the original TV show.
The team who currently make the series – showrunner Heidi Thomas and executive producers Pippa Harris and Ann Tricklebank – will also be responsible for creating, writing, and producing the new film and prequel.
