Netflix’s Most Controversial Animated Series is Leaving in 2026

I’ve noticed Netflix has been adding a lot more original animated series lately, but it’s become clear that just because something is on Netflix doesn’t mean it will stay there. It’s actually pretty surprising – even shows Netflix itself creates aren’t guaranteed a permanent home on the platform. I recently found out a big animated series that premiered in 2018, with five seasons and over fifty episodes, is being removed in the new year, and there’s no word on whether it will come back.

When She-Ra and the Princesses of Power first came to Netflix, it sparked debate among fans of the original 1985 cartoon, as the new series took a different approach to the story. Now, according to What’s On Netflix, this version of She-Ra will be removed from the streaming service on February 21st. If you haven’t watched Adora and her friends battle the Horde, you should do so soon, as it’s unclear where the show will be available in the future.

Eternia’s Only Hope

There’s still hope for a new She-Ra series! Amazon announced last year that they’re developing a live-action show based on Princess Adora. Heidi Schreck, known for her work on shows like Billions and Nurse Jackie, is writing and executive producing. While a big shift from her previous projects, she brings valuable TV experience to the world of Eternia. Plus, Amazon plans to release the live-action Masters of the Universe movie next year, featuring a star-studded cast including Nicholas Galitzine, Jared Leto, Idris Elba, and Alison Brie.

Netflix heavily invested in the Masters of the Universe franchise with shows like Masters of the Universe: Revelation, Masters of the Universe: Revolution, and He-Man And The Masters of The Universe. However, none of these series are currently planned to continue, suggesting the franchise may be moving to a different streaming platform. This is concerning, as Netflix is known for cancelling original shows that struggle to find a new home elsewhere.

A prime example of this trend is Voltron: Legendary Defender, the popular 2016 series that ran for eight seasons and built a strong following. After it ended, Netflix removed the show last year, and it hasn’t been available on any other streaming service since. Interestingly, Amazon is currently developing a live-action Voltron movie, which could potentially revive the franchise, though details are still unconfirmed.
