Taylor Momsen, who started her career as a child actor, shared a story about Jim Carrey being very upset when she almost got hurt while filming ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’.
In a recent interview with Vulture about the making of the Christmas movie, actress Momson – who was only six at the time of filming – shared a story about Jim Carrey quickly rescuing her when she nearly fell off a sled, ensuring her safety.
She explained they were filming a scene of someone sledding down a mountain. The sled wasn’t actually sliding; it was attached to a large spring that was powerfully moved from side to side to create the effect.
Jim was being his usual enthusiastic self, and things got a little shaky when I nearly fell out of the sled. He immediately stopped filming and rushed over to make sure I was okay.
I was really enjoying myself, laughing and completely forgetting how close I’d come to a nasty fall.

Momson shared that she performed all of her own stunts in the movie, which required stunt training. She also mentioned that Jim Carrey consistently made her feel secure while filming.
She explained that she trained by learning how to use wires to simulate flying and how to land safely. The training also included some unexpected challenges, like falling through a hidden trap door and sliding down a very large slide that could only be accessed by climbing a rope – there were no stairs.
“The only stunt I didn’t do myself was the actual shooting out of the trash can at the end.”
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Ron Howard’s film. While an animated version of the Dr. Seuss story came out in 2018, many moviegoers still consider the 2000 film to be the best adaptation of the classic tale set in Whoville.
Although the movie received mixed reviews when it first came out – currently holding a 50% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – it’s become a beloved holiday tradition. Jim Carrey’s performance as the Grinch, the famously grumpy Christmas-hater, is especially well-remembered and iconic.
Whether you’re planning to rewatch it or see it for the first time, this movie is one of the many Christmas films now available on Disney Plus.
I remember Taylor Momsen first popping onto my radar as the adorable Cindy Lou Who, and she kept building from there with roles in things like Spy Kids 2 and, of course, Gossip Girl. But these days, she’s really made a name for herself as the incredibly talented frontwoman of the band, The Pretty Reckless. It’s great to see a young actor successfully transition into a full-blown music career.
