Sony, Honda’s Electric Car Will Be the First Vehicle with Full PS5 Remote Play Integration

Sony Honda Mobility has revealed that its new AFEELA electric car will let drivers play PlayStation games remotely. While not a groundbreaking feature, it’s an example of how Sony and Honda are working together to combine their technologies.

The organization has hinted at this for a while, so we’re puzzled by the sudden press release this morning.

According to the announcement, this new feature lets drivers and passengers enjoy one of Sony’s most popular gaming apps directly in their car, changing how people experience gaming while traveling.

This feature will operate much like PlayStation’s PS Portal, but instead of a handheld device, it will stream your PS5 and PS4 games directly to the car’s built-in monitor.

According to the press release, this new feature will let users play console games remotely with a built-in screen and high-quality sound, creating a fun and convenient experience.

Izumi Kawanashi, who’s leading the collaboration between Sony and Honda, said:

PS Remote Play is a key part of AFEELA’s goal to make travel more enjoyable and immersive. By letting passengers play games on the go, we’re taking in-car entertainment to a whole new level.

AFEELA includes a 5G connection, but you’ll need a good signal for remote gaming to work. It likely won’t function reliably in areas with poor or no service.

While the feature is neat, it doesn’t seem like a compelling reason to buy the car. Given the starting price of $89,900, it would have made more sense to directly integrate PlayStation 5 hardware into the vehicle.
