Yellowstone icon stars in first look at drama series dealng with “unspeakable crime” – as its release date is finally confirmed

We’re getting our first real glimpse of ‘Under Salt Marsh,’ the new Sky crime drama starring Kelly Reilly (known for ‘Yellowstone’) and Rafe Spall (‘Trying’).

We’ve got a trailer and a release date for the spooky new series! “Under Salt Marsh” will premiere on Sky and NOW on Friday, January 30th, 2026.

So, a welcome new year’s TV addition to the schedule!

Okay, so I just watched the trailer, and let me tell you, this series looks completely addictive. It’s a cold case mystery unfolding in a small Welsh town, and honestly? I have a feeling it’s the kind of show you’ll just have to watch all at once. It really pulls you in.

The trailer opens with Jackie Ellis, a local resident, explaining that people in the area generally leave their homes unlocked because they trust each other. Shortly after, she discovers a body in the marshlands at night, and the news is passed on to Detective Eric Bull, played by Spall.

Even though Jackie left the police force, she continues to investigate the heartbreaking cases of two children – one death and one disappearance, only three years apart. She’s trying to determine if these cases are linked, but it’s incredibly difficult in a small town where everyone keeps secrets.

As a big cinema fan, I was really pleased to see some fantastic actors pop up in the trailer – Jonathan Pryce, known from ‘The Crown,’ Brian Gleeson (‘Bad Sisters’), Harry Lawtey (‘Industry’), and Mark Stanley (‘Happy Valley’). It looks like they’re all involved in something mysterious, and everyone seems to be keeping secrets!

The new series, Under Salt Marsh, begins with a massive storm approaching the coast. Jackie Ellis, a former detective now teaching, uncovers a disturbing clue that brings back painful memories of a three-year-old unsolved case – a case that previously ruined her career and damaged her family’s trust.

Jackie unexpectedly teams up with her former partner, Eric Bull (Spall), and finds herself investigating a case that will deeply impact the town of Morfa Halen. As they dig deeper, they uncover a community burdened by hidden truths and overwhelming sorrow, and they must solve the mystery before an approaching storm destroys all the clues.

The series takes place in the made-up Welsh town of Morfa Halen. It was created, written, and directed by Claire Oakley, who previously directed the feature film Make Up and episodes of the Disney+ series Culprits.

The new crime drama stars Tom Spall and Stephen Reilly, and also features Naomi Yang (known from Chimerica), Dinita Gohil (Treason), Kimberley Nixon (Fresh Meat), Dino Fetscher (Fool Me Once), Lizzie Annis (The Witcher: Blood Origin), Rhodri Meilir (Pren Ar y Bryn), and Julian Lewis Jones (House of the Dragon).
