Two Years Later, Netflix Still Hasn’t Updated Fans on One Piece’s Most Exciting Project (But That Could Change Soon)

For the past few years, Netflix and the world of One Piece have been closely linked, particularly after the announcement of a live-action series. That series proved successful, and Netflix also helped bring the original anime to a wider audience. Recently, on December 17, 2023, Netflix announced an even bigger project: a remake of the One Piece anime, created in collaboration with WIT Studio. Fans were thrilled, hoping the remake would improve the pacing of the original series.

As a huge One Piece fan, I was so excited when they announced they were redoing the anime with better pacing and updated animation – it sounded like the perfect way to experience the story! But honestly, it’s been a while since the initial announcement, and we haven’t gotten much news. They shared a few cool images over a year ago, but that’s about it. It’s a little funny, considering the whole point was to fix the pacing, that we’re still waiting! Thankfully, I’m hearing rumors that we might finally get an update soon, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

Netflix’s One Piece Remake Has Remained Silent Two Years After Its Announcement

A fan on X (formerly Twitter), @pewpiece, recently pointed out that the official One Piece store has been updated with new artwork from the upcoming One Piece remake. This is the first significant news about the remake since a brief visual teaser was released last year. With Jump Festa, a major anime event, just around the corner, this update suggests we might soon see more information about the remake. One Piece is scheduled to have a presentation at Jump Festa on December 20th, and while most of the focus will likely be on the live-action adaptation and the ongoing anime series, many fans are hoping to finally get a small update on the remake as well.

With new anime often announced and released within a year or two, we’re likely to hear an update on the One Piece remake soon, and Jump Festa seems like the perfect place for a big announcement. Fans are hoping to see a first trailer and get an idea of when it might be released. If not, we might learn how the remake will tackle the story’s considerable length. It’s expected the remake will be released in seasons, starting with the East Blue Saga, potentially with each season having around 24 episodes. Considering 2026 is already looking like a big year for One Piece with other projects and the live-action show, the remake could even arrive as early as next fall if we get an update soon.
