Superman and Batman’s Best Fusion Is Back to Fight Their Deadliest Villain Ever

Batman and Superman are DC Comics’ most iconic heroes, shaping what it means to be a superhero within that universe. For decades, these two characters have maintained a close, though often complex, relationship. They’ve been allies, rivals, and everything in between, always ultimately uniting to protect the world. Currently, they’re forced to work together more closely than ever before.

In an older issue of Batman/Superman: World’s Finest (#4), Batman and Superman found themselves facing a mind-controlled Green Lantern, manipulated by the villain Nezha. To defeat him, they combined their willpower to remove the Power Ring from his finger. Although Green Lantern usually has a stronger will than either hero individually, he was no match for their combined strength. As they pulled the ring off, their shared willpower briefly fused them into one being. Now, this same fusion is happening again, but this time to battle an even more dangerous enemy: a combined force of Lex Luthor and the Joker.

Two Wills Are Better Than One

In issue #45, the Joker strong-armed Lex Luthor into helping with a robbery he couldn’t manage alone. The target was the Absorbascon, a device from the Midway City Museum that would give the user access to all the world’s information. While Lex initially resisted, his desire for ultimate knowledge, combined with the Joker trapping him in a ghostly form using a special device, forced him to cooperate. They successfully stole the Absorbascon, but not before encountering Superman, Batman, and Hawkman, who was working at the museum. During the fight, the Joker’s device malfunctioned, merging him with Lex and temporarily making Superman and Batman intangible.

In issue #46, the heroes struggled to find a way to use their current abilities effectively. They discovered they could briefly affect the world around them by concentrating on physical contact, and it worked much better when they collaborated. Realizing teamwork was key, Batman contacted Green Lantern. Combining their willpower, they merged into the SuperBat form and headed to confront the combined threat of the Joker and Lex Luthor. Even without the Green Lantern ring, they were able to generate energy constructs to maintain their combined form and fight.

We saw the powerful combination of Superman and Green Lantern again in this comic, and it showed us even more about what they can do. They could seamlessly switch control of their combined body, using whichever of their skills was best for the situation. This merged form had access to all of Superman and Green Lantern’s powers, plus Batman’s fighting expertise. It’s a result of their combined willpower and individual strengths – a stark contrast to the dangerous combination of the Joker and Lex Luthor.

Ultimate Teamwork Versus Stolen Power

The SuperBat combination is built on strong trust and collaboration, but the Joker/Luthor pairing is solely based on deceit and a lack of faith. They aren’t a team that works well together; instead, they’re forced to cooperate due to outside pressures and a desire to benefit only themselves. Unlike a balanced partnership where leadership shifts naturally, they constantly compete for dominance, switching who’s in charge seemingly at random. Even their goal – stealing the Absorbascon – reflects their selfish desire to gain power by taking what isn’t theirs.

This isn’t simply a fight between the Joker and Lex Luthor versus Batman and Superman. It’s a fundamental clash between cooperation and deceit, and between trust and self-interest. Batman and Superman rely on their bond, while the villains are driven by selfishness, making this conflict as much about values as it is about strength. It’s the power of true friendship against a truly toxic rivalry, creating the ideal conditions for an amazing battle where the heroes triumph on every level.
