Classic Shonen Jump Series Returning for Reboot After 50 Years: First Look Revealed

A beloved manga from Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump is getting a new anime adaptation 50 years after it first appeared, and fans have just gotten a first glimpse! Shueisha is celebrating at Jump Festa 2026 in Japan, where they’re revealing upcoming projects for their popular franchises. One of the biggest announcements is a new anime series based on a classic manga title.

The popular manga and anime series Kochikame: Tokyo Beat Cop is getting a new anime project! This announcement was made at Jump Festa 2026, and it’s a celebration of the manga’s 50th anniversary since it first appeared in Shonen Jump magazine. Details are still coming, but a first look at the new anime has been released and is available to view.

What to Know for Kochikame’s New Anime Reboot

To mark its 50th anniversary, the popular series Kochikame is getting a new anime! While details are still under wraps – it’s unknown if it will be a series, movie, or something else – an official website will launch in Spring 2026. Fans can also expect a completely new voice cast to be announced in September 2026.

The new Kochikame anime will be produced by Studio Gallop, which is great news! They’ve been responsible for all the previous Kochikame anime releases since the show began in 1996. Thankfully, fans haven’t had to wait long between releases, as Kochikame has consistently produced new episodes, movies, and other animated content up through the 2010s, even if it isn’t as well-known in Western countries.

It’s a Big Time for Shonen Jump Reboots
