A new sci-fi film on Netflix has unexpectedly become the most-watched title, surpassing even Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Surprisingly, it’s also proven more popular than the recent Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua boxing match on the platform. While Netflix often gives lesser-known films a chance to find an audience, the sheer number of viewers this movie has attracted is still quite remarkable.
According to data from FlixPatrol, The Great Flood is now the most popular movie on the streaming service, surpassing Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
The Great Flood Beats Out Knives Out 3 on Netflix

Recently, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery remained a hit on Netflix, landing at number four on the list of most-watched movies. It was surpassed by The Grinch (an animated Christmas film from 2018), a boxing match between Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua, and The Green Flood. Interestingly, The Grinch was the only film of the four that wasn’t an original Netflix production – it was created by Illumination, the studio behind the Minions.
The biggest surprise was that the South Korean disaster film, The Great Flood, topped the list. Directed by Kim Byung-woo, the movie depicts a world completely submerged by a massive flood, with humanity facing certain doom. While a potential hero has a plan to save everyone, she’s focused on rescuing her child from the rising waters. Despite sounding like an exciting and emotionally charged disaster film, reviews have been generally unenthusiastic.
Critics gave the movie a 60% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but surprisingly, audiences liked it even less, giving it only a 40% score. One critic noted that the film worked well as a simple disaster movie, but it lost its way when it tried to be more ambitious. Viewers often complained that the story felt disjointed and confusing, trying to blend disaster elements with science fiction without success. Despite these criticisms, it’s currently the most-watched movie on Netflix.
The Great Flood Also Beats Out Jake Paul’s Latest Fight on Netflix

It’s surprising that, even though The Great Flood received poor reviews and many viewers found it difficult to watch, it was more popular than the Jake Paul versus Anthony Joshua boxing match. Streaming services are clearly investing in the Paul brothers: Netflix features a documentary called UNTOLD: Jake Paul the Problem Child as well as Jake Paul’s boxing events. HBO Max has the Paul American reality show, and Logan Paul is now a part of the WWE on Netflix. Still, Jake Paul’s fight only reached number two on Netflix’s list of most-watched programs.
Jake Paul’s recent fight was his 14th, and while his record was 12-1, most of his victories came against boxers who weren’t professionals or were well past their best years – examples include Mike Tyson in 2024 and Julio César Chávez Jr. earlier in 2025. When he faced skilled, current boxers, he consistently lost; Tyson Fury defeated him in eight rounds, and Anthony Joshua knocked him out in six. Despite the large audience, many of whom were hoping to see him lose, the event didn’t draw as many viewers as the sci-fi film, The Great Flood.
