5 DC Holiday Comics to Make You Feel Festive

Is there anything more festive than seeing your favorite DC heroes in holiday-themed stories? The holiday season is here, and while many of us enjoy classic Christmas specials and movies, comic book fans sometimes crave something new. Luckily, comics consistently deliver, offering plenty of stories featuring heroes – and even villains – getting into the holiday spirit!

DC Comics has released a ton of fantastic Christmas and holiday comics over the years! They’re usually a bit more action-oriented than classics like It’s a Wonderful Life, but they’re always worth a look during the holiday season. Some, like The Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special, are definitely edgier than typical holiday fare, but they all offer something special for fans. Here are 5 amazing holiday-themed comics to get you in the festive spirit!

5. The Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special

Forget heartwarming holiday stories – this isn’t one of them! Lobo, the rough-and-tumble anti-hero, is hired to eliminate Santa Claus. He travels to the North Pole, destroys Santa’s workshop, and then faces off against Santa himself. This comic is incredibly violent, but it’s also filled with sharp, clever humor. It won’t leave you feeling cozy, but it will make you laugh throughout, and maybe that’s what the holidays are really about – spreading a different kind of joy.

4. Harley Quinn Holiday Special

Harley Quinn isn’t for everyone, but her holiday-themed comic, Harley Quinn Holiday Special, is sure to entertain fans. It’s a collection of three funny stories where Harley navigates the holidays. She helps a young girl cope with her first Christmas after losing her mother, battles a strange earworm that forces her to listen to Christmas songs, and even goes on a quest to find Father Time after discovering a gray hair. These are silly and lighthearted stories designed to make readers laugh.

3. Hitman #22

Similar to another unconventional holiday tale, this story definitely challenges traditional Christmas themes. It’s a standalone issue from the Hitman comic where a man named Bob gains superpowers and transforms into a frightening Santa Claus after an accident. Naturally, the hitman Tommy Monaghan is hired to eliminate this radioactive Santa. It’s not exactly heartwarming, but it’s hilarious and easily one of the most memorable Christmas stories I’ve come across.

2. Green Lantern: Larfleeze Christmas Special

I have to say, giving Larfleeze, the greediest Green Lantern character, his own Christmas story was a surprisingly great idea! Green Lantern: Larfleeze Christmas Special really focuses on him – it’s about him going after Santa because he didn’t get anything he asked for. Even though Larfleeze is usually just played for laughs, this special actually gave him some real heart and told a genuinely sweet story about what Christmas is all about. Plus, it includes a fantastic cookie recipe, which is a bonus!

1. Batman/Santa Claus: Silent Knight

Did you know Santa Claus is actually a character in the DC Universe? He even joined forces with the Justice League in the comic Batman/Santa Claus: Silent Knight. When the villain Krampus tries to ruin the holidays, Santa teams up with his former student, Batman (yes, Batman was trained by Santa!), and the rest of DC’s heroes to save the day. It’s a fantastic four-issue story that shows a powerful, action-packed Santa who’s still cheerful and fun. There’s also a great follow-up comic that’s just as enjoyable and festive as the original.
