Emma Heming Willis is missing her partner in life.
After three years since Bruce Willis was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), his wife is reminiscing about their early years together. She’s particularly thinking about a trip to Magic Mountain amusement park 17 years ago and fondly remembering what their family life used to be like.
Emma shared on Instagram on December 21st that a recent trip to Six Flags with Bruce’s daughters, Mabel Ray, 13, and Evelyn Penn, 11, made her realize the Viper roller coaster wasn’t as enjoyable as she remembered. She recalled riding it with Bruce in 2008 and said that experience was fun.
The Instagram video Emma shared showed her and Bruce riding a rollercoaster from nearly 20 years ago. Bruce, known for Die Hard, could be heard laughing and reacting to the ride’s twists and turns. He jokingly exclaimed things like, “Oh for the love of Christ!” before a big drop and, “I just wet myself!” after going through a corkscrew.
Emma recalled being certain cameras weren’t allowed on the rides, but she was happy he’d brought one anyway. She cherished his running commentary and infectious laugh, explaining that he had a gift for making everything enjoyable. He simply radiated fun, she wrote.
The 47-year-old, married to Bruce since 2009, shared, “I love him very much, and I especially miss having him to travel with.”

Since Bruce Willis was diagnosed with aphasia in 2022, followed by a more specific diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) a year later, his family – including his daughters Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah Willis, as well as his former wife Demi Moore – have openly shared the challenges and joys of caring for the Sixth Sense actor.
And when it comes to the holiday season, Bruce’s health challenges mean navigating a new normal.
In a recent interview with People magazine, Emma shared that moving forward means embracing change while still cherishing familiar traditions. She explained, “You learn, you adjust, and you create new memories, but you also hold onto the things you’ve always loved. Life continues, and it always will.”

Even though dementia presents challenges, moments of happiness still exist,” she explained. “It’s crucial we don’t focus solely on the negative aspects. People with dementia can still laugh and experience joy – it just manifests in new ways.
After all, for Emma and her family, Bruce has always been a source of holiday cheer.
She explained that Bruce really enjoys Christmas, and they still celebrate it with him, though they’ve had to adjust how they do things.
