The production for Marvel Studios’ upcoming Avengers film titled “Avengers: Doomsday” is ongoing, and one of its cast members has shared some insider information. Chris Hemsworth, set to reprise his role as Thor in this movie, has disclosed a significant aspect concerning one of the most enigmatic locations within the MCU since “Avengers: Endgame”.
Chris Hemsworth has hinted to the Scottish Daily Express that the upcoming Avengers film will once again feature Scotland. This suggests that there won’t be a New Asgard in Avengers: Doomsday. The actor mentioned that he enjoyed filming at Saint Abbs, which stood in for Tønsberg, Norway earlier, but it seems unlikely this will occur with the upcoming Avengers movie.
Experiencing the filming of The Avengers in Scotland was truly fantastic. Unfortunately, it seems we won’t be returning for Doomsday. However, I can’t help but express my desire to return not only as a visitor but also as a worker in the country again. The locals are simply wonderful.
He went on to mention that the Highlands hold a certain grandeur and he dreams of shooting another movie there someday. It’s a location perfect for an epic battle scene, with its breathtaking scenery making for an ideal backdrop.
In the movies, Saint Abbs in Scotland, a tiny fishing village, has been transformed into New Asgard under the reign of King Valkyrie, portrayed by Tessa Thompson. Although Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston’s characters, Thor and Loki respectively, have been confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday, there are several other characters whose involvement remains uncertain, such as King Valkyrie. Thompson’s character was last seen in Thor: Love & Thunder, and it is yet undecided if she will be among the new additions to the cast list for the remainder of Avengers: Doomsday.
It’s worth mentioning that “Avengers: Doomsday” boasts a large cast and numerous locations that need to be shown within a limited timeframe. Given the addition of the X-Men and Fantastic Four along with both the Avengers and New Avengers, it’s clear that the film will already showcase numerous iconic locations. Rumors indicate that Marvel Studios has paid a significant fee to the British Royal Family to shoot scenes at Windsor Great Park this summer. It’s been speculated that one of the properties on this location might be a Defender’s home, although this hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.
Although New Asgard won’t be featured in “Avengers: Doomsday”, there are rumblings about Marvel Studios producing a fifth “Thor” movie. The buzz indicates that if this film is made, it might not star Chris Hemsworth as Thor or be directed by Taika Waititi.
The film titled “Avengers: Doomsday” is steered by directors Joe & Anthony Russo. It features Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., who portrays Doctor Doom, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Letitia Wright as Shuri, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. For the first time in the Avengers series, we have the Fantastic Four cast, consisting of Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
Production for “Avengers: Doomsday” is currently underway, and it’s scheduled to premiere in theaters on December 18, 2026. Following closely behind will be “Avengers: Secret Wars,” which is set to release on December 17, 2027.
