Daddy Issues star praises Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey: ‘We bonded so quickly’

As a fan, I can wholeheartedly say that the camaraderie and chemistry between the cast of Daddy Issues is nothing short of electrifying! The set seems to be brimming with love, kindness, and endless chatter – thanks to the exceptional leadership of Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey. Their ability to foster such a warm, inclusive environment has truly left a lasting impression on me.

Taj Atwal, who plays in Daddy Issues, has showered his co-stars Aimee Lou Wood (from Sex Education) and David Morrissey (from Sherwood) with compliments, stating that they consistently demonstrate kindness on the set of the BBC comedy series.

In a fresh streaming release on iPlayer, the story unfolds as pregnant partygoer Gemma (Lou Wood) finds herself living with her newly divorced dad, Malcolm (Morrissey), leading to a series of unexpected events.

In the production, Atwal plays Cherry – an old friend of Gemma’s who re-enters her life after an unexpected pregnancy. They establish a bond due to their similar past experiences.

“She reminisced about the genuine warmth, affection, giving nature, and endless conversations. It seemed like everyone in the cast connected swiftly, which she attributed to Aimee and David setting the tone with kindness and love.”

Regarding Cherry and Gemma’s bond, Atwal stated, “Their relationship is fascinating to me as they are essentially two solitary individuals who have endured similar bullying at the hands of schoolgirls. They find comfort in their shared experiences.”

Cherry speaks and acts freely, and they both tend to act impulsively without considering the potential outcomes. They seem to keep each other in check, much like friends in their twenties might. There’s a certain enjoyment in their mischievousness!

Speaking as a big fan, I’d like to express my enthusiasm about Atwal’s previous projects such as Channel 4 sitcom Hullraisers, BBC thriller The Control Room, and Apple TV+ comedy Trying. Notably, he mentioned that there could be potential for Daddy Issues to continue if everyone involved were open to it.

She continued, “What’s wonderful about this series is that there are endless stories to tell! As for the upcoming seasons, I’m clueless. All I can say is that I sincerely hope everyone enjoys watching it as much as we did creating it.”

Daddy Issues is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
