The Batcave is arguably the most iconic superhero headquarters, rivaled only by Superman’s Fortress of Solitude and the Avengers Tower. It’s been reimagined many times, and consistently looks impressive in both comic books and movies. You can’t really miss the mark with Batman’s hideout – including the giant penny and a T. rex skeleton usually keeps fans pleased. Here’s a look at the very best versions DC Comics has created over the years.
5) The Belfry

The Belfry is a more recent and unique take on the Batcave, featured in the Detective Comics series by James Tynion IV. Instead of being hidden outside the city, it was located right in the heart of Gotham, inside a tower. While it’s a departure from the classic Batcave, fans really enjoyed this fresh approach. Though it’s unlikely to return, many are hoping to see it again.
A large bell was a charming addition to this cave, and it’s where the expression ‘Bats in the belfry’ comes from. This run of Detective Comics didn’t get the attention it deserved, but the Batcave shown here perfectly captures its unique atmosphere.
4) Batbunker

When Dick Grayson took on the role of Batman, the Batbunker—their new headquarters—was located beneath the main Wayne building after the family left Wayne Manor. Dick and Damian worked out of the Batbunker, with Alfred providing support. Though it was set up like a garage, it still felt like the Batcave, complete with costume displays and a large computer.
It didn’t last long, but we’d love to see this happen again. Bringing the Bat-family back to Gotham is a fantastic concept that DC Comics should definitely explore.
3) Batcave Beyond

The Batcave in Batman Beyond is impressively modern and streamlined. It’s a grown-up take on the Batcave from Batman: The Animated Series, and though it’s not overly showy, it doesn’t need to be. It clearly draws inspiration from the look of the Tim Burton Batman movies, but with a futuristic, sci-fi twist.
We’re primarily discussing the original version from the animated series, though it also appeared in the comics. Both versions feature the familiar, somewhat grumpy, older Bruce Wayne.
2) Arkham Batcave

The Batcave in the Arkham games started as a fairly simple version we didn’t see much of. However, the tie-in comics expanded it into a showcase of everything fans would expect – suit displays, the iconic T. rex skeleton, and a massive computer system were all included, making it a complete Batcave experience within the Arkham universe.
This game doesn’t try to be overly original, and that’s perfectly fine – it successfully combines familiar elements in a way that players will enjoy. While it wasn’t featured for very long, it was a truly positive experience and deserved more time in the spotlight.
1) Batman and Son

It was clear from the start that the Batcave featured in Grant Morrison’s Batman and Son is the best. It perfectly embodies everything fans want in a Batcave and is effectively integrated into the storyline.
With all the Batsuits and trophies on display, this is exactly what Batman fans have always dreamed of. Seeing the Batcave so full of history was fantastic, and it’s sure to remain a beloved scene for years to come.
