Bradley Cooper and Clint Eastwood teamed up again for the hit streaming movie, The Mule. Following their previous work together on American Sniper, this 2018 crime thriller features Eastwood as an 80-year-old war veteran who unexpectedly becomes a drug courier.
Clint Eastwood directed and wrote the screenplay for The Mule, which is based on a real story published in The New York Times about the Sinaloa Cartel and an elderly drug courier. Released in December 2018, the film followed Eastwood and Bradley Cooper’s successful collaboration on American Sniper, which received six Academy Award nominations. The Mule was well-received by critics and earned $174.8 million worldwide on a $50 million budget.
Almost ten years after it first came out, The Mule is still a huge success for HBO Max, ranking among the top 10 most-watched shows worldwide. The thriller has consistently been a top performer since December 19th, even reaching number 3 in countries like Bolivia, Costa Rica, Panama, and Peru. It’s also very popular in Argentina and Mexico.
Currently, you can’t stream The Mule in the U.S. However, you can purchase or rent it from most digital stores. It’s also available on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K disc.

I’ve really enjoyed Clint Eastwood’s films over the years, and even his more recent ones like Richard Jewell, Cry Macho, and Juror #2 all have something to offer. Juror #2 especially grabbed me – it’s a fantastic courtroom drama with a brilliant performance from Nicholas Hoult. But honestly, The Mule still stands out as a real crowd-pleaser. It’s amazing to see one of his classic stars in a smaller role that’s still incredibly important to the story.
