Ariana Grande is a frequent and welcome presence on Saturday Night Live, having hosted three times and made several other appearances. She’s known for her sharp humor, comedic timing, and good instincts when it comes to sketch ideas – from early hits like the “Domingo” sketches to her recent, hilarious take on the ending of the Home Alone sketch. Despite a demanding schedule, including her work on Wicked, Grande recently shared how she managed to prepare for the holidays while also contributing to Bowen Yang’s farewell episode.
Being the final host of Saturday Night Live before Christmas is a big challenge. The actress explained that she finished all her holiday shopping well in advance, before rehearsals for the show began.
I wanted to get a head start on everything before this week, since my schedule with SNL is really packed. I’ve been able to wrap a few gifts each morning before heading to the show, but I’m usually exhausted when I get home.
In a clip from Late Night With Seth Meyers, she playfully described the gift wrapping as “well-intentioned,” suggesting it was a last-minute addition to everything else. At the same time, her dedication to her work on 30 Rock proved successful.
I really enjoyed Ariana Grande’s episode – I thought it was the strongest of the season. The most touching part was definitely the sketch at the end, with Bowen Yang playing an airport employee on his last day. It was a great way to finish a really good episode, although it seems there was more to Bowen Yang’s departure than we saw on screen.
Ariana Grande admits not every sketch she’s been involved with on Saturday Night Live has been a success. She explained to Seth Meyers that it’s especially difficult when she gets invested in a sketch that ultimately doesn’t make it to air. While Meyers playfully pointed out it’s just a sketch and not a person, Grande confirmed it still feels disappointing to see something she worked hard on get cut.
You get really invested in these projects and form strong connections with the people involved – the writers and actors. It’s incredibly painful when someone passes away, because you can’t openly acknowledge it or share your grief with anyone outside of the core team. It’s a very private and difficult kind of mourning.
One of Ariana Grande’s funniest and most memorable sketches was with Taran Killam. Called “New Studio,” it’s actually her dad’s favorite thing she’s done on the show! The sketch also included Kenan Thompson and Vanessa Bayer, and Grande described it as being a bit of an inside joke – “very niche,” as she put it.
Many hilarious sketches that didn’t make it to air during SNL are now popular online thanks to the show posting them on platforms like YouTube. Sometimes, these sketches become huge internet sensations, like the recent one featuring Jacob Elordi parodying Pimp My Ride.
As a huge fan of both Ariana Grande and Saturday Night Live, I’ve been noticing she’s practically a member of the Five-Timers Club! That’s the exclusive group of celebrities – like Tom Hanks and Scarlett Johansson, who even talked about how amazing it feels to be on the show – who’ve hosted at least five times. She’s already appeared on SNL five times, and I really think she’s on track to join those legends. She just might need to be a little more ruthless with her sketches, you know, cut some of her favorites if they aren’t quite working.
