Robert Downey Jr. Shares Official Doctor Doom & Iron Man Holiday Art (Photo)

Robert Downey Jr. used the holiday season to share artwork featuring both Doctor Doom and Iron Man, capitalizing on the excitement surrounding the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film. Downey Jr. is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in Doomsday, but this time as the villain Doctor Doom. After playing Iron Man (Tony Stark) for ten years, he’s shifting from hero to villain. Despite this, many fans still hope to see him reprise his role as a version of Iron Man in the final installment of the Multiverse Saga, and he shared the artwork to fuel that anticipation.

Robert Downey Jr. got into the holiday spirit by posting artwork on Instagram of Doctor Doom and Iron Man as Christmas ornaments. The image showed the ornaments, designed to look like the faces of the Marvel heroes, hanging together with the caption “Silver & Gold.”

This new artwork has fans wondering if Iron Man will return in either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. However, Robert Downey Jr. often shares fun, holiday-themed Marvel art, so this might not actually mean anything about the future of the Multiverse Saga. It’s possible this is just a way to build excitement for Doomsday.

Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Doctor Doom is expected to be as menacing as ever, mainly because Avengers: Doomsday‘s official synopsis revealed that Doom has evil plans for the Multiverse.

Doctor Doom is a powerful enemy, even for teams like the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. Marvel has established him as someone skilled in both advanced technology and magic.

The upcoming Marvel movie, Avengers: Doomsday, directed by the Russo Brothers, is generating buzz with the confirmed return of Chris Evans as Captain America. He’ll be joining other original Avengers like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, and Sebastian Stan. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.

Will Robert Downey Jr. Return as Iron Man?

Because Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man had a satisfying and heroic conclusion in Avengers: Endgame – sacrificing himself to defeat Thanos and save the universe – many believe bringing the character back would diminish the impact of his death and undermine a powerfully emotional scene in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As a huge Marvel fan, I’m really hoping Robert Downey Jr. gets one last chance to play Iron Man during this Multiverse Saga. It just feels like the perfect time, honestly. With all these alternate realities they’re exploring, it opens up so many possibilities for bringing him back in a way that actually fits the story.

Bringing Downey back as Iron Man wouldn’t diminish the importance of future events. It would be a great chance to see him team up with heroes from different universes, like Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, in potential storylines like Doomsday or Secret Wars.

Given how well the Russos brought Captain America back, we can expect Iron Man’s return – which is probably a version of him from another reality, not the one we know – to be handled smoothly and make sense within the story of the next two Avengers films. It would also be exciting to see Robert Downey Jr. play both Doctor Doom and Iron Man in a showdown.
