Since 1999, Bender Bending Rodríguez has been the most popular character on Futurama. He’s a hilariously self-centered robot who doesn’t care much for others, but is undeniably the show’s funniest character. As a key member of the Planet Express crew, Bender enjoys drinking, stealing, and gambling, and only helps his friends if he can get something out of it. He’s also guaranteed to deliver at least one funny insult in every episode.
Bender from Futurama is famous for his hilarious and often shockingly honest lines. Many of his best quotes have become iconic, going beyond just the show itself. A well-placed Bender one-liner is guaranteed to make you laugh hysterically – some fans even need to pause the episode to catch their breath! Here are seven of his most savage and memorable lines, still popular with fans today.
7) “I’d say don’t quit your day job, but you’re awful at that too.”

The Season 3 episode “A Pharaoh to Remember” features Bender at his most self-absorbed. He declares himself a pharaoh and demands a huge, elaborate funeral… while he’s still alive! During the pre-funeral celebration, a well-meaning Zoidberg tries to sing “Danny Boy” as a tribute, but Bender quickly shuts him down with a cutting remark about singing at his funeral. When Zoidberg explains he’s simply expressing sadness, Bender delivers a final, brutal insult, telling him he’s bad at everything. The episode is full of hilarious moments of Bender being incredibly arrogant and is a perfect showcase of his enormous ego.
6) “Honey, I wouldn’t talk about taste if I was wearing a lime green tank top.”
In the Futurama episode “My Three Suns,” Bender unexpectedly volunteers to be the ship’s cook. Leela quickly points out the problem – as a robot, he can’t taste anything! Bender fires back with a playful insult about Leela’s fashion choice, and Fry chimes in with an emphatic “Bam!” This episode marks the first time we see Bender’s surprisingly strong interest in cooking, a trait that continues throughout the series, even though he has no sense of taste.
5) “Do a flip!”

That scene has become incredibly famous and has inspired tons of memes focusing on Bender’s coldness. In the episode “How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back,” Hermes gets so stressed with paperwork that he climbs onto a ledge and threatens to jump. Everyone reacts with shock and begs him not to, except for Bender, who casually yells, “Do a flip!” It’s a surprisingly harsh response, even for Bender.
4) “Oh wait, you’re serious. Let me laugh even harder.”

The episode “Love and Rocket” is a fan favorite from Season 4. It features the Planet Express ship gaining sentience after a software update and developing a relationship with Bender. However, things quickly turn obsessive and unstable. Leela challenges Bender about exploiting the ship’s feelings, and he initially dismisses her before cruelly doubling down. Set on Valentine’s Day, the episode culminates in the ship threatening to destroy itself and the crew in a supernova after Bender rejects her advances.
3) “I’m so embarrassed. I wish everybody else was dead.”

Early in the “Bend Her” episode, Bender feels intensely ashamed while watching other robots expertly perform bending. He’s devastated that he can’t excel at the very skill he was created for, causing a major blow to his pride. He dramatically declares his embarrassment and wishes everyone else would disappear – a surprisingly relatable overreaction. This vulnerability leads him to disguise himself as a female robot named Coilette, and after winning five gold medals, the situation quickly gets out of hand.
2) “Have you ever tried turning off the TV, sitting down with your children, and hitting them?”

In the Season 6 episode “Benderama,” the Professor tries to teach Bender about being a parent using a simulation. Before things get chaotic with a bunch of miniature Bender robots, Bender walks through a hypothetical parenting scenario. Unfortunately, his approach to raising kids is terrible – highlighted by the shocking suggestion to “turn off the TV, sit down with your children, and hit them!” – a truly memorable line from the series. Eventually, the tiny Benders threaten to destroy the universe, but, true to Futurama style, the problem is resolved with plenty of wacky antics.
1) “Compare your lives to mine and then kill yourselves!”

Many fans consider the Futurama episode “A Head in the Polls” to be one of the show’s best. It’s set during the 3004 presidential election, and features a scheming Richard Nixon—just his head, that is. Nixon finds a way to run for president again if he can get a new body, and Bender conveniently sells him his. This leaves Bender as just a head, but somehow even more conceited. After winning big at gambling with his earnings, he gleefully bounces down the street, boasting about his wealth and making a shockingly callous statement: “Game’s over, losers! I have all the money. Compare your lives to mine and then kill yourselves!” It’s a perfect example of Bender’s signature harshness, and it’s precisely what makes him so lovable.
