The Predator series is a well-loved sci-fi franchise, successfully combining action, horror, and futuristic themes. While not every movie in the series is a hit, many are excellent and contribute to the overall story. Starting with the original Predator in 1987, these alien hunters have become a familiar sight in cinemas, even teaming up with the Alien franchise in the popular Alien vs Predator crossover.
The 2007 release of Alien vs Predator: Requiem significantly impacted both the Alien and Predator franchises. The film not only continued the crossover between the two series, but also showed what a Xenomorph offspring of a Predator would look like. It expanded on Predator lore while also making some subtle changes to the established Alien universe. Key developments included the Predators’ response to the events of the first film and the Weyland-Yutani Corporation obtaining Predator technology, both of which had lasting consequences for their respective storylines.
How Alien vs Predator: Requiem Completely Transformed Two Sci-Fi Franchises

Despite being considered one of the weakest entries in both the Alien and Predator series, Alien vs. Predator: Requiem still added something to the established lore. The film revealed that Predators – officially known as the Yautja – will respond to distress signals. This was a departure from previous portrayals, which showed them as a ruthless species where defeat meant weakness. AvP: Requiem presented a more complex and nuanced view of the Yautja than fans had seen before.
As a big fan of both Alien and Predator, I always thought the ending of AvP: Requiem was a really interesting move. Seeing Weyland-Yutani snatch up all that Predator tech felt like a huge deal for the Alien universe. It basically gave humanity a potential advantage against the Xenomorphs, which hadn’t really happened before. It felt like it could’ve totally shifted the power dynamic, and honestly, I was a little disappointed we never saw that explored further in either franchise. It had the potential to change everything.
