The upcoming Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be a massive event for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it will likely require all of Marvel’s most powerful heroes. While there’s been a lot of talk about Steve Rogers potentially returning, fans are also hoping to see more of Thor. It’s been a while since we’ve seen what the Thunder God is capable of, so we’re exploring seven of Thor’s major superpowers that haven’t been showcased in the movies yet. Hopefully, Doomsday and the future Secret Wars will finally give us a chance to see these abilities in action.
7. Teleportation

Throughout his appearances in his own movies and the Avengers films, Thor has developed several powers, like the ability to summon the Bifrost whenever he needs it. While that’s definitely helpful, being able to teleport directly would be even more useful, and surprisingly, Thor actually has teleported in one version of the Marvel universe – the Ultimate universe.
This ability first appeared in an older version of the Marvel universe, separate from the current storyline. In that universe, Thor could use rune magic to open portals with his hammer, Mjolnir, letting him travel vast distances and even between dimensions. While he didn’t use this power frequently, it would be incredibly helpful against powerful enemies like Doctor Doom and his Doombots, so fans might see it in future movies.
6. Super Speed

Beyond strength, Thor also possesses incredible speed, which we’ve glimpsed in his fights and action scenes. However, the movies haven’t fully explored the limits of his speed, and we’ve never seen him truly push himself to move at superhuman velocities throughout his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As a huge Marvel fan, it’s always fascinating to dive into the power levels of these characters. It turns out Thor is incredibly fast – like, Superman fast! Marvel officially rates his speed at a 7, which is the same top-tier rating they give to Quicksilver. That means Thor can hit supersonic speeds, which is pretty mind-blowing. Honestly, I always wondered why we haven’t really seen him use that ability in the movies. They already introduced a speedster in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and sadly, Quicksilver didn’t make it. Since then, that potential for super-speed with Thor has just been…there, unused. But with the upcoming Secret Wars storyline potentially resetting things, I’m hoping we’ll see another speedster emerge. Or, even better, maybe they’ll finally let Thor embrace his own super-speed and really run with it!
5. Invisibility

Thor isn’t typically known for being quiet or sneaky, but he can be when he needs to. Surprisingly, he has the power to become either completely invulnerable or able to pass through solid objects.
Invisible Woman and Vision aren’t the only ones who can become intangible anymore, and it’s even more interesting because Thor can now interfere with the phasing abilities of others. While he doesn’t have as much control over this power as Invisible Woman or Vision, he can still use it effectively when needed.
4. Megingjörð and Yolgjörd

Okay, so these aren’t exactly powers Thor has, but more like super helpful tools that make him even stronger! We’ve heard about Megingjörð in the MCU, but it’s never actually done anything yet, and Yolgjörd hasn’t even shown up at all. Both of them are incredibly powerful and could unlock some amazing new abilities for Thor, and honestly, I’d love to see them appear in a future movie – they’d be awesome!
Similar to the mighty hammer Mjolnir, Megingjörð is a powerful belt created by the Gods. It’s known as the Belt of Strength because it instantly doubles Thor’s power and makes him twice as resilient. However, using the belt leaves Thor weakened afterward, so he must use it strategically during fights.
Yolgjörd is a newer addition to Thor’s equipment. This belt was created by Thor himself, using the power he took from Zeus. Its main benefit is that it protects Thor from magic, which will be very useful in his future fights. Using either of these belts will make Thor, already a strong hero, even more formidable.
3. Magnetism

Thor usually relies on his incredible strength and thunderous powers to get the job done, and it’s hard to argue with success! However, he actually has a lot of other skills he doesn’t often use, like the ability to control magnetic fields.
I remember reading about some of Thor’s older battles, and it was incredible to see how he once fought Magneto! He actually used the special metal in Mjolnir to pull away Magneto’s magnetic force field. It wasn’t just that, though – Thor could also use Mjolnir to make things magnetic from really far away, and even tap into the Earth’s own magnetic energy and channel it through the hammer. It just showed how incredibly powerful and adaptable he is. Honestly, though, with Magneto now joining the MCU, I doubt we’ll see Thor using those abilities again anytime soon!
2. Mind Manipulation

Beyond abilities we might not see explored in X-Men stories, let’s talk about mind control. While Thor’s mind is naturally resistant to telepaths, he can also control others. He’s demonstrated this by temporarily taking over someone’s actions, such as when he controlled Hela to reverse a curse she’d cast. This power isn’t limited to Thor himself; he can also use his hammer, Mjolnir, to both knock people unconscious and even erase their memories.
While this ability might have been helpful for Thor in future movies, it’s probably not going to happen now that the X-Men are joining the cinematic universe, especially with Charles Xavier’s powerful telepathic abilities. However, having an extra skill or advantage wouldn’t be a bad thing.
1. Earth Control

Thor has always been able to use the powers of thunder and lightning, both in the Marvel comics and the movies. While he can control the weather, he hasn’t yet demonstrated control over earth-based elements in the films. If he did gain that ability, it could significantly change the outcome of any fight.
Following the events of Ragnarok, Thor gained impressive new abilities, including control over earth’s elements. This allows him to rebuild things, cause earthquakes, or even create lasting fissures in the ground. No other character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe currently possesses such powers, suggesting we might see Thor utilize them in future movies.
