Dandadan Teases Okarun’s Post-Possession Powers

Dandadan Teases Okarun's Post-Possession Powers

As a long-time fan of Dandadan, I must say that the recent developments in the manga have left me utterly astounded! Okarun, our favorite hapless hero, has undergone a remarkable transformation that goes beyond the typical supernatural possession narrative we’ve seen before. His newfound physical prowess is not only impressive but also unexpected, considering he was never known for his athletic abilities in the early chapters.

In a significant shift, the narrative of Dandadan is embarking on a fresh chapter, disrupting established norms. The recent installment hints at alterations in Okarun’s physique due to Turbo Granny’s influence. Previously, our heroes managed to rescue Unji Zuma and others from Danmanra, and Momo Ayase continues to remain petite even after escaping the board game. This dilemma is not exclusive to the characters; Okarun too is grappling with his own changes.

After the battle against the Fairy-Tale Card and the liberation of Okarun’s second golden family heirloom, their alliance with Turbo Granny concluded as well. Since their partnership has dissolved, Turbo Granny formally terminated their agreement and reclaimed her powers. However, contrary to what Okarun assumed, his body won’t revert back to its original state after losing her influence, as suggested by the latest chapter – he seems destined to be altered permanently, whether with or without that possessed power.

What’s Happening to Okarun?

In Chapter 167 of “Dandadan”, Okarun and his classmates participate in their annual fitness assessments. His self-assurance about his physical prowess is shaken because he hasn’t timed himself running this way since middle school, but he manages a swift 50-meter dash in just 5.8 seconds. He also takes the opportunity to retaliate against one of the bullies who had troubled him earlier in the series. This unexpected event adds an element of surprise and amusement. Caught off guard by his own speed, Okarun isn’t the only one taken aback – even the other students are shocked. The chapter goes on to portray various instances of incredible speed and strength showcased during these fitness tests.

Afterward, he effortlessly executes a shot put throw covering thirty-five meters, leaps an impressive thirty-six feet in a long jump, performs eighty fluid side steps, repeats a shuttle run one hundred and twenty times, and surprisingly, he barely appears to be out of breath following these strenuous activities. He marvels at his own fitness level, considering he no longer possesses Turbo Granny’s abilities, and it becomes evident how he managed to achieve such feats given that he has been running and battling tirelessly since first harnessing her power. Over the course of their ongoing struggle for survival, Okarun has undoubtedly been testing his limits.

Why Okarun is So Strong

From the start of the series, Okarun has subjected himself to intense physical strain. He and Momo have been running from dangers at top speed most of the time, but it’s not just their speed that takes a toll on Okarun. He’s also been working hard to fortify his body to withstand the immense energy from Turbo Granny. Through rigorous conditioning, Okarun has achieved a level of physical fitness he never thought possible. Additionally, there might be residual power hidden within him as well.

Since Okarun has retrieved his ancestral talismans, it’s plausible that these artifacts could enhance his physical form using some unknown substance. Given that he’s also grown stronger independently, it’s likely that he can continue to aid against potential dangers even without a direct link to Turbo Granny’s powers in the future storyline.
