A beloved Christmas classic and its often-overlooked follow-up are currently the most-watched movies online during the holiday season. Despite the popularity of re-watching favorites like Elf and Home Alone, newer films are also finding an audience.
According to FlixPatrol, the Kurt Russell film The Christmas Chronicles is now the second most popular movie on Netflix. The holiday season has also boosted interest in its sequel, The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two, which is currently number seven. Both films are leading the way with young viewers, holding the top two spots in the Top 10 Kids movies category.
Directed by Clay Kaytis and written by Matt Lieberman, the film centers on siblings Teddy and Kate Pierce, ages 16 and 11, and their mother, Claire (Kimberly Williams-Paisley). They’re trying to cope with the loss of their father, Doug (Oliver Hudson), and struggling to feel the holiday spirit. Just when they need it most, Santa Claus (played by Kurt Russell) unexpectedly enters their lives.
When Teddy and Kate finally manage to catch Santa delivering presents, they unexpectedly team up with him for an exciting adventure. They need to help Santa find his missing reindeer and other important things. During their journey, they meet a variety of fun characters, including Goldie Hawn playing Mrs. Claus, Martin Roach as Officer Dave Poveda, and Jeff Teravainen as the sneaky villain, Vincent.
