Erin Bates is closing out this year with a grateful heart.
After recovering from a serious infection and septic shock following the birth of their seventh child nearly four months ago, the couple from Bringing Up Bates recently shared a look at how their family is celebrating the holidays.
After a challenging year, Christmas feels extra special this year. I’m just overflowing with gratitude thinking about the true meaning of the season – remembering Jesus’ humble birth and recognizing Him as the greatest gift we could ever receive. My family and I – Chad, the kids, and I – spent Christmas surrounded by music and love, and we wanted to share that feeling with you all. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas from the Paine family!
This peek at their family celebration comes just over two months after Erin shared good news about her recovery from a recent hospital stay. She mentioned in October that she was finally able to walk again after weeks of rest following the birth of her baby, Henry.
Erin shared on Instagram on October 2nd that she was overjoyed her leg finally moved after weeks of being unable to use it following a seizure in the hospital. She explained she’d needed help with mobility – being carried, wheeled around, or supported – and described the moment it moved as incredibly emotional, filled with tears and prayers.
Oh my gosh, she walked today! She actually took steps, and she said they were a little unsteady, but still…steps! It just completely broke my heart – in the best way, of course – because she wasn’t even sure she’d be able to walk again. I’m seriously tearing up just thinking about it. It’s incredible!
The 34-year-old, who shares six children – Carson (10), Brooklyn (8), Everly (7), Holland (5), Finley (3), and William (2) – with her husband, Chad, also opened up about the feelings she’s experienced during her health challenges.
She shared, “I went back and forth between tears and laughter, feeling overwhelmed with thankfulness. I’m so grateful for Jesus – He’s always been faithful and has brought healing into my life. All praise goes to Him.”

Erin went on to thank those who helped her and her family amid such a difficult time.
She expressed her gratitude to everyone who had prayed for her and offered encouragement, saying they had played a vital role in her recovery. She also extended heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and therapists whose dedication had been instrumental in helping her heal. Today, she and her family are incredibly thankful for every bit of progress she’s made.
